Make tank shot hurt close-by infantry

Post by Hotrod525 »

As said in the tittle i wanna suggest if its possible to make the tank shot hurt the infantry.
As a Armor Soldier, they learn me to watch all around the tank if they're is infantry cause when we shoot, that make a high pressure around the cannon end wich can blown the ears of soldier (extremly painfull ) so that could had some realism to PR :-P

Unfortunately there is no way to model physical discomfort, as opposed to physical combat damage, in the vBF2 system. As unpleasant as it would be to have your ear-drums perforated, it is unlikely to cause you to bleed-out - something that could hypothetically occur in PR.

Making proximity to tank-shots reduce infantry stamina might be an alternative, but I am sceptical about of practical, significant or worthwhile such a change would be.

That's not modelling physical discomfort, but I take your point. The vBF2 flashbang "ringing" effect could be used to handicap audible input for the player, I suppose. But I still question the practical benefits this would add to gameplay.

know the DEv's are sensible but please don't increase the sound effect of the gun, I know IRL it's loud but with sounds levels it could damage peoples hearing seriously considering a lot of people wear head phones.

Maybe the tank could give off a small amount of area damage to anyone by it when it fires to represent that. say 5-10% of soldiers health.

Make the tank sound REALLY REALLY loud enough to hurt your ears. But that would be terrible. Supression effect seems good enough.

I think the "ringing" effect from flashbangs seems quite good.

come on guys, just give it a humungous suppression effect, sure its realistic for it to destroy ur ears, but lets not create a possibly match ruining mistake from such a small representation of reality.

What about suppression + ear ringing for about 30 seconds? I remember they did it pretty well in CoD2, though I can't recall if that was when you where near the tank shooting, or if it was the tank shooting at you :D

Sounds doable, I guess it would be pretty easy to implement in a number of ways. I'd want Creman kits to be immune (ear-protectors as standard, right?) though.

It prolly won't impact gameplay significantly, but if it's a 5 minute job to put a simple realistic aesthetic touch into the game, so much the better. And if it deters noobs from trying to sprint up to a tank and drop IEDs on the top ala vBF2, so much the better, I guess.

I thought dual damage effects weren't possible with any weapon though? That's why rocket and missile weapons don't have any backblast effect isn't it?

Surely at the very least it would be possible to make the tank shells firing trigger the dropping of an invisible flashgrenade on the tank's position? That would have the same effective, even though it is a separate invisible explosive creating the effect?

damage doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Ringing in the ears and suppression around the edges at most. If for no other reason imagine the flood of noobs complaining on the forums about how they started bleeding out for no apparent reason. :)

Overpressure can do more than just shatter your eardrums, it can collapse your lungs and turn the rest of your organs into formless goo.

Yes, but does the blast of a tank cannon create that much pressure localised on the chest-cavity, bearing in mind that it's going off in a wide open space and you're being hit by a blast-wave, not trapped in a hyperbaric chamber that's OPing?

I don't know, but I think it's an important fact to establish before we start making players bleed out just because some numbnut didn't check a building for friendlies before rolling in and firing off shells.

Noise

D-33. Tank main guns create noise in excess of 140 decibels. Repeated exposure to this level of noise can cause severe hearing loss and even deafness. In addition, dangerous noise levels may extend more than 600 meters from the tank. Single‑layer hearing protection such as earplugs allows Infantrymen to work within 25 meters of the side or rear of the tank without significant hazard.
afaik 120db is pain edge and somewhere 180-200db is death edge

The two weapon workaround can't be done either, I think the original plan was to have a shotgun like projectile come out of the back of missile & rocket weapons to simulate backblast, but a way of coding it couldn't be found... summet like that anyway.

It happens in vanilla, so surely it could be re-implemented for PR?
