Should I get this game?
I've been looking for a game like PR, and it definitely attracts my attention, so I've been thinking about getting BF2 for this. However, I recently heard about ArmA 2, which sounds like a similar game. I don't know which one I should get, seeing as I haven't played either (or the original ArmA). Which one do you guys think is better to get?

Re: Should I get this game?
Arma2 is a "mil sim" , strives for as realistic as possible (to a extent) but you really need to join a community clan to experience any sort of real teamwork (going by my experience with arma1)
PR is more a semi-sim , with the aims being more gameplay and teamwork. bf2 is very cheap these days, so why not?

I've played ARMA 1 a couple of times on the demo, its fun and all, but I totally love PR. So you should buy BF2 in order to play PR.

awesome, I'll probably get BF2 and then maybe ArmA 2 later
getting teamwork in a game on PR sounds easier then joining a clan and all
thanks guys

Yeah, BF2 isn't expensive so you should give PR a try indeed mate. I think you will be so hooked that you can forget all the other onlinegames for a while

Re: Should I get this game?
PR makes ArmA1 look like a pile of garbage (at least when i played ArmA).
BF2+PR is about the best value you can get when looking for a game to play. BF2 gameplay is rubbish though, as Mad-Mike said.

arma looks 10x better but u wanna make sure ur computer can handle it.
PR has good gamplay and its hard to say what Arma2 will be like, so id give PR a go since its only $10 tho just remember how much the bf2 engine has limited PR

Re: Should I get this game?
Many people say ArmA II is very buggy, and it may take time for their developers to fix that game. BF2, on the other hand, has been out for nearly four years. There are still some small bugs that hinder people from playing Battlefield 2 and thus any mods.
I say you should get BF2 simply for its ten dollar price tag, and this brilliant mod. That way, you can wait for ArmA II to lower its prices, and give their devs time to make a patch for it.
You can see some PR gameplay on YouTube, Vimeo or Xfire. Not all of these videos play out exactly like the mod however. They may exhibit extreme instances of dedicated teamwork or hardcore silliness.
A nice playlist to start you off: YouTube - Broadcast Yourself.
If PR turns out not being for you, you can still fallback on the simple fun of original Battlefield 2, which many of us like to call 'vanilla'.

Re: Should I get this game?
ARMA and PR are totally different games and should not even be compared. Despite all the ARMA haters here ARMA is a great game and is more innovative than most games out nowadays I would definitely suggest buying it. Like others have said its a very graphics intensive game so make sure you computer can handle it.
Not to mention this game has a great modding community.

Re: Should I get this game?
I tried the ARMA1 demo, I liked the massive map and helicopters although I wasn't so keen on the bots or the default control configuration (free aim works well in Insurgency hl2 mod but ARMAs needs tweaking).
I didn't think it looked much better then BF2/PR, animations seemed a bit dodgy, but it certainly ran a lot worse at max settings.
Ater reading about ARMA 2 and watching some videos I've preordered it on steam, should be nice to play with some other humans on the improved engine.
As far as I can tell, ARMA is overall less accessible shooter then PR but I'm not sure how much exactly there is to learn about the game to make some meaningful comparison.

I would honustly hold back on the assumptions for a couple of months. Especially when ACE mod get's their grubby little hands on it.CyrusPI wrote:Many people say ArmA II is very buggy, and it may take time for their developers to fix that game. From what i know the game is made of pure win, and looks like it was made by Jesus himself. In ArmA 1 your ability to set up personal single player missions is widley regarded as being truly groundbreaking. and ArmA2 has the same functions and more. including the ability to land into the middle of a map with a spec ops team and just wait for random orders and objectives to be given to you by the commander which you can ignore or reject. I live in Ireland so i dont have a copy yet, but as soon as its available, you can bet ill be racing to the counter to buy one. the question is, do i wait for the retail copy...or the Steam content??? In any case, dont pirate it, because pirating is bad and you'll go to jail for being a nasty money cheating purse snatcher.

Re: Should I get this game?
I too am tempted by ARMA2 but it seems to need a $3000 computer to run it (or a $300 Xbox) but I do wonder if it is tooo mil sim for me, whereas I would enjoy the mil sim side I generally only play a few hours in the evenings (kids wife etc) I doubt if this amount of time would do justice to ARMA2.
However it seems to have many appealing Milsim features, I have also wondered about Americas Army.

There is an excellent preview on ARMA2 i think on the site...but quad cores needed!

In any case, I'm not even watching ArmA II, or OFP2 or America's Army 3. May I add, it is simply because they'll be just too pricey in the near future.Psykogundam wrote:I would honustly hold back on the assumptions for a couple of months. Granted, they look like they could be great fun if I could play them, and they'd undoubtedly surprise me with the advancements in modern gaming. Astonishing player numbers, AI improvement, weapon customization . . .
PR satisfies all of my realism needs, runs moderately well, and is, best of all, free.
P.S. Interestingly enough, ArmA II managed to find me on Twitter. How do they find me? D: And I'm not even interested or showed signs of interest on the Net. Maybe BF Heroes and ArmA are in on it together.
