mumble usage question
Hi,
I've got the new .4 pr mumble beta installed and working , but I'm confused how to use it. Here's why:
I have clan mates and we have a vent server to keep in contact - so I have a PTT key for that.
I also have a PTT key for PR voip and commander voip - so 2 more keys.
Now, with mumble installed I need 2 more PTT keys, one to mumble and one for squad comm.
So, when I'm in game say that 3 guys in my squad are on mumble and the rest arn't, then I need to voip to 3 and repeat what I said on mumble to the other 3. Otherwise the 3 guys with mumble will get echoing in their headsets, right?
Next problem is I don't have room for -5- PTT keys, it's just too many.
So how do you guys work with mumble in game?
TIA
Kandor

Re: mumble usage question
you shouldn't be using mumble with players in your own squad.... its for other squad's members (sometimes armor crew use them to keep voip clear to other armor) . use VoIP!bkandor wrote: So, when I'm in game say that 3 guys in my squad are on mumble and the rest arn't
as for buttons, well i guess u will have to find some and keep them noted somewhere if you get confused
personally i use:
two buttons on side of mouse for VoIP and mumble proximity, then click middle wheel for broadcasting in SL chan on mumble. V is CO voip still. and B for TS/clan mumble as it is usually the least used as i use other coms during game.

i have side buttons on my mouse, so i use those. and on the reality teamwork server everyone is going to be using mumble on there only eventually, so everyone will hear.

Ok, that is new to me - I thought mumble was meant for squad comm as well as intra squad comm? thks

Re: mumble usage question
Even if it is "meant" for it, it's just simpler, easier, and better to use in-game because some people aren't on mumble (I personally don't run mumble if there are only a few guys on--which I believe most people do. No point of having it running if you aren't using it), in-game comms lower volume levels so it is easier to hear during a fire-fight, and three: squad members 70 meters out can easily hear you.
Edit: Not to mention, it shows who is talking on BF2 VOIP, so you can quickly find him on map/looking around to see what he is talking about (if he says "infantry north" and he is quite a ways west (50 meters at least), the coords are obviously going to be off....)

Instances when mumble is to be used:bkandor wrote:Ok, that is new to me - I thought mumble was meant for squad comm as well as intra squad comm? thks
1) When talking to another squad
2) When wanting to talk to a member of your squad without cluttering VOIP coms, e.g. individual tank crews can talk to eachother and then use BF2 VOIP for inter tank communication. It does help.

Ok cool, that helps clarify things - I wasn't quite sure obviously what the intention was.
Now we just need to get more people on. I don't think I've seen more than 3 or 4 guys on any given server yet (evenings est)

-The servers that use Mumble the most are T&T, UKWF, and Reality Teamwork(New server, might not be populated too often right now. We're seeding though
), 20-30 people on at peak hours.

If i am in squadleader channel, can I still talk to my squad in mumble by pressing the local chat button or whatever its called?

Re: mumble usage question
I use mumble quite often, sometimes I forget to jump into the server channel I am (it will still work even if your not on the same server of the channel you are on mumble), but still not many use it on normal servers...
The admins in Reality Teamwork (dont know how its done on the other servers) they tend to warn those who arent on mumble before kicking, since it's a Server Rule, if you go there, the chances are that we have mumblers there
.
One problem on mumble, from my point of view, is the extreme noise it can have, like the end of a round, or when at the spawn you want to speak to your squadmates and you have one squad next to you mumbling to each other, while they could use the voip... But I dont see a fix for that =/...

pelitutka has usually quite a few mumble users(when it is populated).Tartantyco wrote:-The servers that use Mumble the most are T&T, UKWF, and Reality Teamwork(New server, might not be populated too often right now. We're seeding though), 20-30 people on at peak hours.

Someone has already mentioned Reality Teamwork. Check out this link, it is the Forum/Website of this Community: Reality Teamwork
We are currently seeding the server and the last two evenings there was really great Teamwork, of course with Mumble
