That is true. Even though the internet era has started some time ago, I'm still amazed at the fact I can play with and get to sort of know different cultures and people from pretty much anywhere in the world. So, yes, I had good times playing PR; not only with fellow brazilians, but with russians, turkish, finnish, americans, chinese... and that is just awesome.dhl1986 wrote:i love the fact that you can join a random squad and be playing with people from anywhere in the world. the accents and cultural differences always keep things interesting
So, I consider socializing via VOIP is always nice, too.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
I agree, when playing 'tactically' we are bound to found ourselves defending with not much to do except watch and wait (which is 100% Ok for me).
This time passes very well with a bit of chit chat or asking any silly noob questions I have, this for me is often the best place for answers to questions, but I believe many players will not ask for not wanting to appear a 'noob'.
The only problem is in our 6 man squad 3 thought headshots were fatal (no point trying to revive the guy) but the other 3 thought they weren't fatal!
I think an awful lot of players have wrong info or will not ask others for help or advice...Me I couldn't care less!!!
We need the WIKI or rather i do!

I like professionalism, but if it gets to the point where I have my squadmates screaming because they got shot and are bleeding out, I draw the line. As long as we aren't engaged in a firefight I can accept casual talk. Its when we are in a firefight and people don't call where the shots are coming from an just start screaming that they're getting shot at.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
I'd talk a ton if I could, but for study reasons I put my Beast of a computer in the lounge room so I wouldn't play as much, for anyone listening it's like a phone conversation but in a different reality....
"enemy at 310"
"WHY IS THE APC SHOOTING AT ME?????"
"Yeah I got your back man"
"Damn he killed me"
"MEDIC"
"Yeah I like spagetti too"
"Well now that I have two minutes to wait until respawn, I'II have some pudding NOM NOM NOM"
But I guess it's worse when you're playing Zombie Panic......

I've had squad leaders that wanted me to call them sarge... and i've had squad leaders who were according to their own words: "too drunk to fuck so he came to play some pr".
i usually socialize and shut up in a firefight (except for the important things of course), but I have to say that when im sneaking around and enemies are nearby I start whispering in VOIP (yes, i know, im a dork.)

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
Once I was SL, I had a SM listening to music, loudly, so he didn't hear shit!
I was telling him to turn the music down, not just because it would improve his actions, but also because he was screaming into the mic as a result of it, and he was talking ALLOT!
Then, later, I spot some inf moving, calling out 'inf, north-east, by the treeline. But he wonders on, couldn't care less. Half a minute later he screams 'HOLY SHIT, THERE'S SOME HOSTILES OVER BY THE TREES!!!!' into his mic, upon witch I reply 'yea, told you houres ago!'
Then, again, he screams 'CANT HEAR YOU MAN!'
EDIT: by the way, this was on vBF2

LOL on that one...wookimonsta wrote:I've had squad leaders that wanted me to call them sarge... and i've had squad leaders who were according to their own words: "too drunk to fuck so he came to play some pr".
No offence to our younger players, but the thing I find most offputting is to hear some squeaky 12 year old babbling on and on while you are trying to get a decent squad action together.
Not only is is proper annoying, and maybe I am just tooooo old, but shouldn't your voice at least have broken before you consider ultra-realistic killing and maiming as a past-time? The parent in me starts ringing all sorts of alarm bells about why this sort of game should be reserved for less impressionable minds...
And that will be all on that touchy subject, don't want to be flamed by a whole horde of youngsters

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
VOIP communication has to be short and to the point if it's going to be effective.
I remember on one of the insurgency servers a while ago I had some guy in my squad who literally wanted to narrate everything he did. "OK, I'm coming up around the corner... Enemy! Deploying gun.. shooting! I'm hit! Aw s**t I'm dead." When I warned him about it, he stopped for a few seconds and then started again, like he couldn't help it. I eventually just kicked him even though he seemed like a decent guy.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
Squeaky voices + Loud voice + bad microphone = Insanity
but yeah I like a casual guy with a cool voice sometimes but other times I prefer a guy that is quite serious, but I hate people that take it too serious, like some 15 year old **** the other day, I joined his squad and already had an automatic rifleman kit. He was like "OOOHHH MYYYYYYYYYY FUCKING GOD!!!!!!!! WHY THE FUCK DID YOU CHOOSE THAT CLASS ASHHHOLLEE!" and I just said "i already had it" and he's nearly crying at this point like "dude, this has happened FOUR FUCKING TIMES, ARGHHHH! YOU FUCKTARD" and I just went "stupid fuck, go cry elsewhere dickhead" ( I tend to swear a lot, not that I think it makes me seem "cool" or something but I live in Glasgow where basically you call your friend a ****, so yeah.. ) and he tk'd me and reported me, the rest of the squad's stats at the end of the game were pretty poor as well.
Then a completely different case we were on a boat and some guy with a deep voice like on a Jazz radio station was like "91.5 and a half, Pirateeee Radiooo.. bringing you the best boat music in the seven seas.." and his voice was just so relaxing that I actually did better, he kept cool during situations unlike the guy in the last example and it boosted the squad's performance.

Re: Annoyingly casual VOIP users.
This poll, and the differences it shows in the PRM Audience vet a point I made long ago when the Devs started removing in-game voice commands from the command pie-menus; that the PRM Audience is both too broad in background (from Hippies to Blood & Guts Operators off on the weekend) and at the same time too small to tolerate some of the differences that prevail in VOIP, making VOIP dependent game-play a drag, unatmospheric, or too ineffectual to sustain the interest of some.
The really essential command and communications that are needed for a virtual squad and fire-team are not so many that it goes beyond the perview of a good command message system that would easily fit in PRM -- and BF2 offers one of the best basic designs for implementing and expanding pre-set, context-senstive voice and raido command and communication, which is sad to see go so under-realized/utilized by PRM...
Even if it misses a few things; having a unified, manageable command system that gets used, where Players are consistently and effectively communicating, and not blowing immersion, or frustrating and annoying each other with 'iargon from work', 'role playing', 'idle chatter', 'bigotry' or 'talking about Bobby's hole' (yes a real experience in PRM VOIP, one I won't be back for soon)...
A good in-game voice/radio command system not only adds a level of immersion the Developer has control over, but can manage spam and idiot context use of communication where this just can't be done with VOIP. I was very disappointed to see the PRM team not only not exploit these capabilities where the Refractor 2 engine is able to surpass many games, but marginalize them -- giving one more reason for me and Players with my sensibilities to give games like ArmA, VBS2, and ArmA II that offer what we're looking for in this regard more of our attention.

VOIP is GREAT for Friends that know each other and play together, it is literally total Babylon for any kind of effective communication with large diverse audience on public servers... This isn't the first game to see that outcome...

I like VOIP.
My negative Voip experiences are rare, but to be realistic and fun we all need mumble, but I for one am waiting until it is integrated and more reliable.
