[Map] Kandala Docks (2km) [WIP]

Post by VapoMan »

Im going to make a map based on a city called Gandhi Dam in india. No map editing has begun, so far only pictures and ideas.

The map itself might not actually be set there, it's supposed to be a map for USMC vs insurgents or MEC. So there are two varients, one for insurgents one for MEC.

Satellite image of the insurgency map with roads(red), mains and fences(black):

The carrier in the insurgency map would be docked, looking something like this:

The other map type is the same area but zoomed out , and due to its massive real life size, the map wouldn't be made to scale.

Satellite image of the MEC map with position of the main bases.

The MEC map will have transport heli's, APCs, AA vehicles, logistics trucks and a tank in the MEC main, with boats on the river . And the USMC will have boats, APC's, transport huey's and a Cobra.
There will also be a few scattered vehicles in the map, like forklifts and a couple of drivable civillian cars in the carpark.

The map will feature some sights simular to these:

And also a lot of shipping containers, and a few ships.

Should I go with USMC vs insurgency or MEC? :-?

If you want insurgency...
What should it be called? MEC in India could be a true story, but Iraqi Insurgents there is unlikely, so it should be called something different.

I hope you guys like the ideas, let me know what you think about them.

First make the terrain, don't worry about factions or assets at this point. Make the terrain, then start making villages/cities/docks, etc, then put in the factions and assets.

The idea of having the carrier docked is unrealistic imo.

very. One of the huge advantages of having a aircraft carrier over a airstrip in any campaign but epically an insurgency one is that it is far harder to attack if its way out in the sea. You can't just drive up to the gate with a car bomb or sit outside the fence with a bunch of mortars / RPGs, you would first need something that can get past the ship's escort and that isn't something that is very east to get hold of.

It does and does not : They speak Arab, so they should be mainly in arab countries (unless they're invading india? wtf?). India is oubviously not an Arab country, so I doubt they'd be there unless after an invasion.

You know, don't get defeated by those facts, just make your map like it is (terrain, statics, etc) and don't think about teams or assets yet. When it's done, you can decide and think more thoroughly what those will be.

Also, the carrier on your second map is waaay too close to the land, it will easily get raped.

I suggest you work on the insurgency one because it is RL scale, and RL scaled maps ala West-Fallujah are what PR is after (I think). Good luck!

Just throwing some more ideas into the ring, since this is supposedly set in India, how about the British from the east and the MEC on the west for a good ol' fashioned ground battle by the sea? ;)

I will fight for my homeland of India and defeat the british once again!

hehe.

All in all not sure how the mec will play out in india. Maybe insurgents but they speak arab as well.
Beats me but good luck with the map.

I think having the carrier docked could be quite cool. It would bring a new style of defense to PR. Could go horribly wrong tho lol. If you do it right then i'm sure it will be a great map.

Good luck,

Don't worry about the factions, like others said, just build the map. Besides, having a map based in India could possibly inspire some Indians to create a community faction. You never know :)

Looks like a great area, how big will it be?

If I go with insurgency there will be a few problems.

1. Why would the carrier be docked there if insurgents are in the area.

2.Why would the insurgents be there. I haven't heard of taliban or iraqi insurgents in india.

3.With the carrier docked so close to the action, its very vulnerable.

Having it docked is cool, but ill leave that idea for later. It doesnt fit in well with this map.

The alternative for the MEC map would be this:

With the USMC Carrier/British base in the bottom right corner, and the MEC base above the bottom left corner, near the yellowish rectangles.
This would be much more to scale, but still not completly accurate.

The port the map will feature is actually Kandla Port, the second largest in India.
So the Map should actually be called "Kandla Port", "Port Kandla", or "Kandla Docks", as Gandhi Dam is hardly part of the map.

Let this be a lesson to you all, RESEARCH, then come up with a name.

It will be a 2km map, but wont have the play area streching to the border.

The reason the MEC are there?
They have invaded this region of India. Not necessarily all of India, but this part, as it is not very central.

Im just starting the basic terrain in BF2 Editor now...

well, i guess carriers need to get supplies form time to time, especially if no support ship in near them, so, when its been peacefull until the carrier docked and the insurgents just started an uprise as protest agains the local goverment allowing a us carrier to enter their port, it sounds not to unrealistic to me

Having the carrier bombed would be cool.

So the Carrier gets bombed, makes a forced docking, and once its docked gets attacked by the locals.

With that i could have the carrier leaning, like its half sunk, and a whole lot of black smoke coming out!

I would be really cool if i could ad this look to the carrier:

But that could take a while.

Anyway.. like u guys are saying, I should get the map built before I get the teams and stuff sorted out.
