FIM-92A Stinger for Taliban AA

Since the Taliban, formally Mujahideen, were armed by the CIA back in the 80s'during the Soviet invasion of Afganistan. Why not give them some Stingers? It would add some variety to the game and since the Stinger is not used alot in PR this would allow the weapon to be used more. Plus, it only takes a few Kit code tweaks to do.

Here is the Taliban with Stingers ingame. It would probobly be mostly asthetic but maybe we could add in 5% more damage on the Stingers to represent them working better? It would give the Taliban the boost they need to take down Hueys, which can now take lots of damage.

I don't know about many Stingers they probably have left over there, and putting +5% damage sounds kind of odd because the stingers are older and might have been burried in the sand for a while for storage, I'm pretty sure even back in the war they would use teams of like 2-3 stingers, but maybe that was just to be sure they'd get the Hinds. Other than that, sounds great.

You don't need a Stinger to take down a Huey, you just need a sub-par LMG gunner. Its not really hard.

Agreed, but do Taliban as it is now have any pick-up kits at all? I know insurgents do, but I don't recall seeing pickup kits on Archer.

If so I wouldn't mind seeing it... however, there's not a huge reason to make them do 5% more damage, again seeing as they are actually older and have been stored for a long while in less-than-pleasant conditions. However, I'm also not sure whether saying they use them today is accurate; do we have any proof of this at all?

At most it seems to be more of a simple change of model rather than implementing a new weapon (not bad, but obviously not of huge priority in some ways).

However, I'm also not sure whether saying they use them today is accurate; do we have any proof of this at all?

(Also, out of curiousity, what MANPADS does the US Army/USMC use, and is it used in-game? How about the Brits?)

You just made my day. I also just realized how few people actually grab them, let alone try to use them lol.

(In game the USARMY/USMC use the FM-92(A?) Stinger, I think the brits use that one too)

Yeah they use the stingers. But, there would be no need to boost the power of the stinger, it's already a much better weapon than the SA7. If this change was made, there would be far more downed aircraft on Taliban maps.

I know. In my defense, the reason I don't know is because I am often either playing Officer or a scoped rifleman/grenadier/medic in infantry squads... I can use all the kits but I prefer being 'under-equipped' to be more versatile and also less of a burden on my squad/team.

I need to start bringing AA with me more often on more OpFor rounds, especially on Muttrah or Barracuda...

As you can see the SA-7 goes over the mountain then just streaks toward the clouds (not even toward the sun -.- ), but with the Stinger it continues beyond the mountain and loses its rocket fuel and just lands into the dirt.

Could a Mod move this to community modding?

Move it to community modding section? Why? There is barely any work to be done here, this is more a case of the devs approving the suggestion to ignoring it.

According to British and US intelligence the few stingers the Taliban have are powered by a battery and should have decayed by now and the few that they have will only be used around an important member of the Taliban maybe an SA-14 would be more common along with the SA-7 which seems to be used a lot more the thing is they seem to save the not to shiny stingers for the protection of a high ranking taliban leader.

I read an article saying they could easily replace the batteries and the stingers would work again. They mentioned the pentagon testing out a stinger from that era, and they said after replacing the battery the stinger worked flawlessly. It even went on to say the Taliban were supplied with new batteries by Pakistan, but it was unclear weather it was a backdoor thing or the Pakistani higher-ups had something to do with it. I believe the article was from before the war.

And i agree their numbers wouldn't be very high, and they're most likely sitting in some cave somewhere protecting the Taliban leaders.

I'll bet they have a few around. Maybe we could create a new kit just named 'Stinger', limit it to two. This way, we could have squads devoted almost entirely to taking out vehicles. I'd think it would be the Taliban equivalent of that trusty Armor squad. Something like 1 SA-7, 1 Stinger, 2 RPGs, and a Medic.

So then the Taliban would use tactics to call a Technical full of this squad to shoot down a helicopter. Even better, the squad could hide on a cliff and wait for a transport to come by (or an attack), then disable/destroy it. It would also be interesting on Op Archer if a small AA fireteam could position itself inside the bunker across the castle with a Stinger (to disable) and a SA-7 (to destroy). This would make it possible to shoot down those pesky transports dropping off marksmen.

I think that Personal AA is severely hindered in this game. It's a very useful asset, and especially for Insurgents. I recommend placing Stinger as a separate kit. The Stinger should have larger range and a bit more damage than the SA-7. It should take ~7 seconds to start up.
