Dont be afraid to squad lead

Post by charliegrs »

Weve all had those games, you know what im talking about. Nothing is cohesive. Every squad you join is just a clusterf#$k with green dots scattered throughout the map and about half the squad is using voip. You trying joining different squads, and every one is the same. Whats the best way to turn this situation around and have a good round? Lead your own squad. I know its a scary thought for some of us. There is some pressure to it, and it can be a bit overwhelming at first trying to corral your squad into an effective fighting force. But its really not as hard as you think. Once you have control of a squad you have control of whos in it. Dont be afraid of the kick button. Im not saying be a squad leading nazi, but if given fair warning and someone refuses to communicate or stick with the squad then they are just taking up a slot and you are right to kick them out. Make sure to advertise in team chat that you are leading a serious teamwork oriented squad and you will be amazed how many people leave other **** squads to join yours. From there its just a matter of following the rules of the game. If you are in an insurgency map and leading your squad to the caches you are the doing the right thing. The same goes for Cap points. Remember the assets you have as the squad leader, rally points, map markers, area attacks, ability to communicate with the commander etc.

Ive noticed that most squad members are pretty understanding of a new squad leader as long as hes not leading them into nowheresville. I used to be afraid of squad leading because I thought if I was getting my squad killed or not capping quick enough everyone would get mad. but on the contrary, ive found most people are just glad to be in a communicative teamwork squad they could realy care less how well we are doing because they are having a good time.

So I recommend for all those people who are afraid to try it, give yourself one round on your favorite server and devote it to running your own squad. you may end up being a really good squad leader, which in my opinion feels alot better because your helping other people have a good time.

idk why, but when every i lead a squad, everyone is laughing while we walk.. then we get serious in less then a second after a bullet flys past us...

we stay alert, but we have fun doing it.

sl'ing is a big step from being a squad member, and dont be afraid to ask your squad mates questions about the maps and opinions of what they should do, i feel that those sl'ers who say lets do this, idc what you think we are doing this are the ones who make the game. not worse but a little bit less fun, listen to there opinions and if they say i think this might be a good idea, or " i think they may be stationed here" or somethen like that, listen to them and take it into account, dont ignore them.

and db, sorry about not picking you up earlier in pr, i was the driver and my gunner/sl ordered me to stay and use the apc as a ifv.

in my experience of playing PR i find the best squad mates are usually good SLs....i think the more experienced SLs there are in PR the better the people who follow you...yes this statement was a bit OT :-D

You should just yell the **** out of the Squad members! Tell them to shut up or you will kill them. And if they dont follow orders you rape them with carrots and other vegetables.

Works like a charm

Yeah dont be afraid to be Squadleader. You should though, be afraid to be the commander... Thats scary.

But in the end, when you go Squadleader, you get the hang of things, like how to adress people, moral and discipline etc.

Meh, set a general objective as a commander for squad leaders to go about themselves.

"Squad 1, defend this objective"

"Tank squad, cover the APCs and IFVs that are going in to go with inf"

"Inf squad, move up and attack, get in the APCs and IFVs"

"APC squad, pick up that squad, wait for tanks to reach you guys before moving up, but use your best judgment."

Some people (MEMEMEME) just fold under that pressure. I'm far more likely to alt/f4 if I squadlead a full lot of infantry. Or not use my squad at all and lonewolf. Both of those things are bad. So I don't SL unless it's for vehicles. Transport squads and whatnot. It's helping, at least a little.

I will create a squad when I first join while I wait for Voip and mumble to fight over control over my sound files. Which they do for between 10-15 minutes and then realize they can co-exist. I'm not really squadleading but I can't be an effective squad member during this time.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.

The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.

Some are not interested in being Squadie, because if they are then they cannot play with their favorite kit.

Being squad led by Wicca was the most stressful experience of my life :D , and having carrots shoved up my crack probably the most painful.

And yeh this is all the right stuff, there's nothing more important in a pub game of PR than having a good squad leader, otherwise the whole thing just feels directionless.

I will be back squad leading once I get another head set. I decided to let someone borrow mine while they were over and now one of the speakers is f*cked.

WHY MUST COLLEGE MAKE ME POOR :(

I only like squad leading when I know the map fully. Which is most tbh but some I hate and dont play that often.

organising people is bloody annoying, Half the time there 16 year old kid's who think they know better then you and just want to argue with you, or don't follow you or lesion to instructions

And you can be a total NAZI squad leader and swear at them and beat there a### which does held good result's because they are then too afraid to be disobedient,

But for me squad leading has got so tededious and annoying i just don't want to do it any more, and i sure mostly every ones got the same idea as well,

sometimes. i'm not one of them, i want a squadleader with awareness of how the gameplay works and one that's able to make rational decisions, so i'm not just a bunny for the SL's tactical experiment. not to flank around the whole map like you sometimes see squads do at operation ghost train.

i guess that if you're gonna be a good squad leader, you should trust yourself a lot instead of just not being afraid. it's ok to be a nazi, i love following strict squad leaders (with a reasonable vision) when i'm a squad member, as long as they're not bitchy or unpleasant.

edit: and i enjoy commanding too if the squads seem good. constantly talking and asking squads to relay enemy positions that i make other squads aware about. i even played some guitar for a dude traveling a long distance in his jeep.

I totally agree with you, Even if i die or we lose the game i still will always have fun because i was in a squad that used teamwork and communication.
