PR & Steam
I personally don't like the idea of Steam, I prefer to have a CD as I reinstall my PC about once a year, also from reading here people seem to have problems with the Steam DL PR?
Opinions guys please.

Re: Steam
I'll ask what I ask everyone who says that.
Why?
With STEAM..
1. No more need for CDKEYS or having physical CD's or DVD's - all of which can be lost!
2. Can install on ANY computer in the world and have access to your games just by logging into your account.
3. Comprehensive network for future games development - "STEAMWORKS"
4. Integrated VOIP / "voice call" system.
5. Integrated chat rooms.
6. Friends list and group networks.
7. Pirating is almost non-existent on the STEAM network.
8. Works with any software - can be used as a "launchpad".
9. Download / content server network is the best of the best - high speed and always available.
I've had STEAM since it was beta. I still don't understand why people don't like it.
What is so wrong with the idea of STEAM?
PS: If someone goes and says that STEAM has security issues and that accounts can be hacked, you are wrong. The only reason anyone's account is hijacked is because they were stupid enough to give someone their information, or go to a website and enter their account info into it.

Re: Steam
I brought his up for two reasons:
1. A few threads about people who seem to have problems with PR.exe from Steam.
2. Steam was mentioned for PR2 even though by the time/if that comes out we will all be playing total immersion games in holographicsuites like on Star Trek?
3. I personnaly try to limit the stuff I install particulally programs that go on line on their own (I don't really even like X Fire with its auto updates, I prefer to do this manually abd thus stay in control of what versions I run).

Re: Steam
1. Only PR.exe problems I have seen are due to Vista / UAC / DEP. STEAM itself has never given me an issue running the game. I launch it through STEAM.PLODDITHANLEY wrote:I brought his up for two reasons:

2. Will never happen for another 10 years.
3. STEAM doesn't have to go online except for the first time and to activate any games you purchase through STEAM. Once you activate the game by running it with STEAM online just the first time, you can play it OFFLINE. Not sure if you can run STEAM in offline mode all the time. I also don't understand why people are paranoid about what programs access the Internet. As long as you don't do something stupid there is nothing to worry about..

No he's not forcing, he is responding to my questions and worries in a informative way, which is why I posted.

Re: Steam
Am I preparing to agree with [OD-S] ploddit?
Anywho I don't like Steam, the only reason I have had to use it is to play AA3. I don't like having to run apps to launch my games. I want to click the icon and bam my game starts without anything else. The only other optional thing I run in the background is xFire and I can't live without it.

Re: PR & Steam
I used to be a steam hater, but then I actually realised how stupid it was to hate on such a useful app. Its not a resource hog in anyway, also I am sure people still leave AV's running while they are playing? Its another reason people use that has no real basis behind it.
Any company with a bit of sense will use steam....

Re: Steam
Actually my account got hijacked because of a Trojan on my computer I didn't know about, but Valve managed to get it back to me in about four days so no real harm done.eruffini wrote:PS: If someone goes and says that STEAM has security issues and that accounts can be hacked, you are wrong. I really love the system, it works great and it's so much less hassle than screwing around with disks all the time.

I love Steam. Steam loves my credit card too.
D:
The only problem I have with Steam is that I buy too many overpriced games for the sheer hell of it (and with a fast connection I'm usually playing them the same day), also.. Xfire doesn't like Steam. So its a fight to get them to play nice when I'm in-game - minimise here and there and keeping track of Xfire on my little LCD screen, then maximising to realise that I DIDN'T PAUSE THE GAMEEoria/hgvklejfgafb/lakn

I have that problem, steam is also to damn easy to use so now I have way to many games on it. I calculated how much I spent on my steam games ones, then a cried a bit.RedSparrow wrote:I love Steam. Steam loves my credit card too.

Re: PR & Steam
You can backup your steam files so you don't need to redownload/reinstall the games.I prefer to have a CD as I reinstall my PC about once a year
