Bobbing up and down

Hi all,

Just wanted you thoughts on people who bob up and down behind an object before shooting you in the head with 1 shot.....?

You know the ones, you are hunting the enemy and spot 1 just behind a fence or hill and start to get him in your sights ready for a shot, they then start to bob up and down really fast before bang - you are dead.....

Firstly this shouldn't be possible in a reality term as it would almost impossible to get an accurate shot using this method and second - it's just not gentleman like...

I was also wondering if it was against the engine physics to stop this happening, surely using this method would make the deviation of the weapon unsettled and make it a million to one chance of actually hitting you, yet these 'cheats' can seam to hit you every time....

So is this method of playing just taking advantage of a poor engine system or is it a viable tactic to use in order to dominate an enemy?

and i tend to agree that this sucks big times, but there isnt much you can do about that, since the engine never intended to shoot inaccurate if you change stance from crouch to stand...

tho the bobbing up and down is at a minimum as the enemy is normally dead after 2/3 "bobs" . also using this tactic can mean uber CQB sniper/marksman action. Thing is, people will do it to me and will be at an advantage, it would be stupid not to use it against them. also its not massively unrealistic as going from crouching to standing takes very little effort.

Just think at it as the enemy has better cover than you. Naturally he should have the upper hand.

This. In reality, you can pretty much bob up and down from crouching to standing/almost standing. BF2 might take it a little far, but I don't think it's entirely unrealistic. Also, it's obviously not applicable to all locations, for example, the tops of most buildings are built so that when crouching, your head/chest are over the top.

No, I think he's saying you can make use of the lack of deviation change from crouching to standing (correct me if I'm wrong here) to move your sights onto your target while he's shooting over you and having to re-aim.

As I said, BF2 probably exaggerates the ability to do this, but in reality, soldiers don't simply stand behind cover and slowly shoot at each other until someone scores a hit (at least not for the last century or so).

Simply flank him or frag out. If he's at range just get suppressive fire on it, and take him out with accurate shots or grab a grenadier

If I understood the OP correctly, he means people quickly crouching and popping up, as killonsight said.

You do realize that if you use suppressive fire, that his screen should go all blurry and such? If you simply shoot at the object he is taking cover behind, his vision will blur and even if he pops up, he won't be able to see you accurately and will be firing blind right? I know it's not very "realistic" for someone to bop up and down like that, but if you're sitting there waiting to shoot him, I have to say that you're just a sitting duck then. Not enough people use suppressing fire in this game...

Last night this happened to me, I was hiding behind some logs in a prone position with just my head and gun pointing out trained on him... he bobbed 3 times and then fired on the 4th and I was dead. What gets me is if I was stood there for a few secs without bobbing and then took my shot, it would of probably missed him but yet the people who do this seam to hit every time without fail.

From my BF2v experiance playing against this tactic its done for the advantage of hit box lagg in the bf2 engine. You bob up and down so fast that you can see the enemy but your players body animation is bobbing up and down that fast that if some one shoots at you even though they see your head your hit box is still on the crouch position and they score a dust shot. They see the bullets hit you and dust come up but no damage. Then all the bobber has to do is fire in time with him going into the standing postion after using the bobbing (crouch) to line up the shot knowing he isnt going to get shot. Some BF2v servers will kick for crouch spaming behind wall creats etc as its a exploit of the BF2 engine. I find that a well placed nade sorts these crouch spammers out.

The point is that he doesn't need to aim at you again after he aligned his sight to your body. He just bobs up, shoot at you with pin point accuracy without aiming and gets down again in a split second.

The vanilla term for this is " crouch spamming" and the reason it's so effective is that once you have lined your target up, as long as you don't move your mouse your aim is pretty much dead on so even if you are getting suppressed you can still pop off single shots with quite a great deal of accuracy. This is why a lot of people can get some amazingly fast kills with it. Also the BF2 hit box lag comes into play with this making it harder for you to hit the bobbing target.

FIrst why are you stanidng where you are standing? Just standing there your doomed to get shot "if you cant kill it leave it."

If I see some one doing that I run in the other direction, or throw a grenade if I have one theres almost no chance of getting him.

Also those who doubt the abillity of some one to make accurate shots while bobbing/weaving from cover watch pro paintball. Not 100% applicable but it shows the concept to be sound.

It's a bigger disturbance to the firing position than walking is for sure, plus it's pretty disorientating if done continuously.
