please take a look at insurgency maps, see how detailed they are, then think how long they took to make, then double or quadruple the time to make them to get an idea of the commitment needed to do a 4k insurgency map
And the gods did see fit to hand down Sangin after 1.6 and there was much rejoicing.
I'm in no hurry and never complain about maps. They are horrible timesinks to craft, many respects to those who have the knowhow and creative fortitude not to break down sobbing before the madness.
Players might be hardcoded, but that sure doesn't seem to stop anybody from trying.
The only winning move is not to play. Insurgency, that is.
Its too bad alot of new maps are very good looking but aren't that good. I love mestia and other small area maps, mostly because they are most fun. But yeah, Where is mestia!
OGT, yes it needs to go back in, and maybe Mestia, because it's part of the trio (Assault on Mestia, Fool's Road, Siege of Ochamachira) and it also plays out quite well, however it needs the flags revamped. EJOD Desert needs some tweaking before going back in. The flag needs revamping, instead of one large one, put multiple small flags. Maybe put some enterable statics here and there, instead of the defaults.
Absolutely no maps need to be removed. They need tweaking. Quinling doesn't fit with random flag choices, so put back in the more interesting flag points like the river town and mines. Yamalia needs a bit more detail, like a village, to spice it up a bit. Kashan is fine, it's a good map for the armor crewmen and pilots to get their groove on. I have no idea why everyone is complaining about Korengal Valley. I have never had a bad experience with it, on either side. Everything works out fine and both teams I was on have won the battle at least once. To be honest, I like the cave searching and the traps here and there. This is why you NEED a specialist in your squad. Lashkar Valley just needs some tweaks, no need to be removed. First of all, dome of death. Second, better protect the main base from snipers. This map plays a bit like Korengal Valley in some areas, albeit it does have some open spaces to give the armor crewmen to get their kills in. Fallujah, it's fine. I don't see why everyone is complaining about this one either. If you can't see a Gary truck waiting for you before killing it with your main gun, you need glasses. I've never had a bad experience on ANY map in PR, except for maybe Sunset City or Seven Gates, but those were never played anyways.
The people complaining to remove maps are just butthurt that they can't use their favorite tactic. Infantrymen complain about big maps like Kashan and Yamalia, and crewmen and pilots complain about tiny maps like Asad Khal. You can't use your favorite walk to a building and breach and clear tactic in Korengal, boo hoo. Try something different, how do you think real soldiers are holding out in Afghanistan in the real Korengal Valley right now?
I would love to have old Airport map back. Ghost Train was good too. Also it would be great to have British army back in Asad Khal. Nothing wrong about IDF, but the map was better with English.
If something should be taken away, that would be Kozelsk or Fools Road. I don't like those.
I saw this thread title and first thing that came to mind was Operation Ghost Train. I played PR for maybe a couple weeks a LONG time ago, I remember always trying to find a server running OGT, joining up and then getting mad when the server would switch maps.
My experiences/memories on OGT were actually what brought me back to PR almost a year or two later.
The problem wiht ghost train was that it was all or nothing, since there were only two flags on the map it was all or nothing and there was no depth for defence.
I was actually surprised it was gone (Ghost Train). I mean compared to EJOD and Sunset which I understand since symmetrical mirror image maps are kinda corny. The gameplay was really well fleshed out and the map was balanced.
The gridlock and shootouts that would form around the big bridge were a good time. I think an updated Ghost Train would really lend well to the amount of assets you can build in .909 This is one map where the deployable HMG's might actually be of real use since there is so much low growth vegetation and the map layout forces some infantry bottlenecks.
Lastly its nice to see both GB and PLA on maps, seems like they have been drying up through the releases.
Kinda following the bandwagon and previous experience, I'd say Ghost Train too. Too add what hasn't been said, I also loved how it did a great job at creating an uncomfortable and miserable atmosphere with the rain and mosquito sound effects, making the gameplay feel interesting.
Also, not technically a map, but I kinda want the Chechen rebels back on maps like Fools Road. Although I know the Militia are the same thing, I kinda liked the times when we were fighting Russians instead of the British who have fast IFVs that can both scout and pulverize infantry. Even with the changing times, who said PR couldn't be about past events either? (Actually, several maps like Operation Archer do that)

Is there a possibility to see old maps overview somewhere? I'm a PR player since 0.8 version and it would be great if something like this (link below) was available for now defunct maps.
