GPU issue terrain is transparant/white

Post by Alex L. »

Hello everyone,

Today I decided to get my PR freak on again, only to find that once ingame, the terrain is transparant. I can see the waterlevel of the map and hidden flags under the ground. Soldiers, skybox and objects are fine, but the terrain texture is simply not there, lol. Any idea what it can be? Rhino pointed me towards a GPU issue and advised I post here, so.. here we go. :-D

specs:

Win7 pro - 64 bit.
Core i7 920 @ 2,67 GHZ
6 GB RAM
ATI HD5870 - catalyst 10.7

hope you can help!

Regards,

If you still have trouble run battlefield cleaner to flush out your video cache files

Still no joy?

Trash your BF2 cache files
Path:
C:\Users\'your user name here'\Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache

Throw EVERYTHING inside the folder named cache away.
don't worry the files will be replaced with new ones when the game restarts.

Still CTD?
OK
Some other things you can try before you uninstall/reinstall.
Backup your BF2 folder that's inside your documents folder. Once you have a backup delete the original from your documents folder.
Try starting PR from your PR shortcut
a new default folder is created
link to your online account.
If all goes well (CTD gone) all you have to do to get your custom settings back is copy your 'control' file from your backup to the new profile folder.
path:
C:\Users\your user name here\Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\0002
note: you may not have a 0002 folder so use 0001

I've seen this occur as the result of several different issues.

incorrectly patching BF2
running unsupported resolutions
some of the vsync options in the catalyst application can cause it
as pal posted, somtimes just had shader files that you can delete

Thanks for the help so far. I'll try these suggestions.

Disabling Anti-Aliasing should solve this issue, although in the months since 1.5's release, I still have no idea of the underlying cause. It does seem to affect only ATI cards though.

That being said my system is near identical to yours and I have no such issues. My brother's as well, no dramas (but with Q6600 + 5770)
