Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
I like 4km maps as long as it's not Quinling. People need to be realistic when it comes to the evaluation of combat effectiveness of their team. Chances of infantry to survive in the open terrain are minimal. Infantry can't defend flags like South Outpost on Kashan because enemy armor will basically level the entire place with ground. In case the team lacks heavy assets or the assets do not support infantry, tasks should be changed in order to reflect that situation - recon, building defences, sabotage of structures behind enemy lines. There's not much a simple man can do on his own in the desert.

Most 4km maps are great because the provide more variation of roles and tactics (most) but probably surpass the amount of teamwork most people are capable of or realise they need.

They are too big for 32 players in my opinion.

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
I think one big problem is the Kashan map. It discouraged infantery squads to go mechanized, because when you have to fight over bunkers you gotta gett off that apc and park it someplace and you cant take it in either, because anything on the surrounding hills can take you out.Silly_Savage wrote:You mean the part where he says he believes there is a lack of "infantry vehicles" that don't require the crewman kit? Such as, transport trucks and clown cars?
As far as I know, the military doesn't roll into battle in 5 tons and a couple of thin-skinned jeeps. That's the whole reason the APC was born. Use them. There's a reason they are in the mod, and it's not for being used as light-tanks.
If you have to walk, it's because your team doesn't have their shit together. Period.
No disrespect intended, but I believe adding more "infantry vehicles" is not the right approach to take.
Anyways, this is starting to head off-topic. Lets get back on track.
On smaller maps it makes sense to have dedicated squads crew the apcs, but on many of the larger maps, you have so much armor to form dedicated armored units that there is enough leftover for a 6 man squad to crew.
Take Yamalia for example. Yes there should be an apc squad with 2 apcs to gang up on enemy armor, but a 6 man squad sacrifying 2 people to go crewmember is more than offset by the firepower and mobility of the apc, not to mention access to heavy weapons and reloads for said weapons.
It aint like there isnt enough armor on the map and crews are forced to walk.

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
how true this is.'[T wrote:waylay00;1478026']To be honest, it's because most of our society wants everything immediately. There is little patience. Everyone wants things now, and this translates to PR map preferences. Why do you think games like Counter Strike have sold so extremely well? Instant shoot 'em up action. Why was Karkand the most played map on BF2 vanilla? Instant action. Why did EA/DICE make the Battlefield series progressively more like MW2 and less like its original forefather (BF1942)? People want instant action.
It's really a shame. The 4km maps, IMO, are way more fun than the smaller maps, but sometimes you have to have a little patience. Sure, you might have to hike for 20 minutes on foot to get where you are going. But to me, this type of situation adds a really cool suspenseful element to gameplay.
i play games with instant action to get what i miss in PR. but PR gives me more of those things, i ve never seen in any other game: teamwork on public servers

Because I'm seeing a pattern, 4km maps = armor heaven.Farks wrote:And what does this have to do with mapsize? Nobody has ever claimed it's a good idea for infantry to move over open desert (or any open ground for that matter), especially when there's enemy armor around.
Some maps are more focused on infantry, and some are more focused on armor/air. That's just the way PR is.
Surely I'm not the only one to notice this?

They are a heaven for infantry too. Real CAS moments when you are pinned down by enemy fire near a FOB, and then the JDAM's just rain on the outpost.Phixion wrote:Because I'm seeing a pattern, 4km maps = armor heaven.

Having 2km of relatively-flat terrain results in even worse position for the Infantry.
With 4km, flanking become a legitimate strategy (hug the map edges for the infantry instead of having to walk forward/anywhere and head into enemy).
Bigger maps ensure that everyone gets some action due to having objectives.
The smaller the map is, the more COD PR becomes.

Because it's almost impossible to have engaging and realistic tactics with 2 platoon sized teams on a 4x4km map?

This, god yes this. I have nothing against large maps by themselves. What I do dislike is that the layout of assets makes the game for an infantry squad essentialy this - spawn, do something, get wiped out by something completely beyond your control. Sure, it's how things go in real life. But we want some balance too, right?[R-DEV]fuzzhead wrote:I think 4km maps with reduced heavy assets is best gameplay PR has to offer.
No servers putting them up yet, but I would LOVE to see a server running a map rotation with mostly 4km maps in infantry mode.
Make it so that everyone cherishes their assets. That tank squads cry when they lose their tank. That CAS pilots punch something when they're shot down. That the hardware that costs beyond millions of dollars is valued as such in the field. A better layout would be perfect for this. Any arguments for teamwork or the lack of it are moot, because the problem is beneath that, in the very core of the map layouts. I'd really like a game of Kashan where I can put my head outside the bunkers for longer than 5 seconds without getting a tank round blow my head into 5 different bits of gore littering the bunker entrance.
Or raise the player amount. Which is impossible.

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
In this forum mostly agree that best maps are the bigeest. This means that everybody think the same? NO!
The probe is that when maps are changing to this ones mostly people leave the server and you should wait long time for will be full of people who likes that ones (minority!)
This misunderstanding is happening in to many problems as well. The opinion of the people that is not in the forum is important as well.

Well... if most people agree with something, that doesn't make everybody think the same... right?Idiosincrasia wrote:NO!
Just messing with you, man XD
But I think what most people agree is that 4km maps are better if you have a team that's working great as a team, and using assets to their fullest.
I think that, for the sake of gameplay, whoever got killed in an asset should go infantry?

Hahahaha yes yes yes yes, In fact Kashan desert, Iron Egle and Wanda San are the favourite map of the people hahahahah for that reason ALLWAYS ARE EMPTY!!goguapsy wrote:

Instead of try to make me messy, try to dont be messy whit what you read and understand because i didnt talk about which maps are better, (big maps has more teamwork) i just talk about wich maps prefeer the people.
You can think whatever you want, and everybody of the forum as well.. but without normal people (not 100% reality freaks) PR is death like with the version before, that never where more that 5 servers working at the same time (with ths version people is coming back because they repear some gameplay, now is more fun)
People says, if you dont whant realism, go to COD, I say, you if want realism, go to Irak or Afganistan

Depends on server, this maps are never empty (except Wanda Shan cause it lags for some people) on servers I play.Idiosincrasia wrote:Hahahaha yes yes yes yes, In fact Kashan desert, Iron Egle and Wanda San are the favourite map of the people hahahahah for that reason ALLWAYS ARE EMPTY!!
Stop bitching against generalizing and then generalizing in opposite way...

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
My point exactly. Unfortunately, public servers normally have an issue concerning team-scale teamwork (wherease in-squad teamwork and some small scale inter-squad teamwork are common).Idiosincrasia wrote:Hahahaha yes yes yes yes, In fact Kashan desert, Iron Egle and Wanda San are the favourite map of the people hahahahah for that reason ALLWAYS ARE EMPTY!!
SighsPR is death like with the version before, that never where more that 5 servers working at the same time
Could you elaborate on that, please? Repear?(with ths version people is coming back because they repear some gameplay, now is more fun)

And right now I count 27 servers with players in them: Game Servers | Server / Player Search | Game-Monitor.com :: Server Search, Monitoring, Stats and more

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
I enjoy them because they aren't as laggy.
Most of the towns and cities are spaced far apart with just some trees, unlike maps like fallujah.
The only thing that isn't fun, is when the map is dragged on for far too long. Either because the enemy lost all of their trans, or you go to cap a flag far away on foot and then your previous flag was taken... SO you have to keep walking.
I really agree with success on large maps attributed to inter-squad team work, but I'm too apathetic to work together... Because of this, I usually run small independent squads dedicated to assets or ambushing.

Re: Why do people dislike 4km maps?
this sums it up pretty good for me...[R-DEV]Rhino wrote:I think for many 4km maps the avg public server dosen't have enough team work on them to make a 4km map fun. On a small map, all you really need is inner squad teamwork to be fun while on a 4km map, your relying much more on other squads to work with you to complete an objective and a lot of the time you can't except that on an avg public server. You really need a mumble only server or a server that strives towards teamwork all the time (or better yet, both) to really get the foundations you need to make a 4km map really enjoyable and most servers simply dont go for that.
When a 4km map is played right, it can easily be the best gameplay you will see in PR but if its played wrong then it turns into a really boring environment where you can't really do much on your own or as a squad that can make a real impact on the battle like you can on a 2km or smaller map.
A few less tanks would improve things I think. I really loved the 16layer version of Kashan...
