[Solved] Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
Hi guys, anyone know a fix for the BSODS with X-FI at Ultra High? There's no problem with vBF2 but PR.......
It's very annoying because you can be flying a jet and then boom, bsod.... so i had to turn it back to Hardware at HIGH with EAX enabled.
Is this a drivers problem or a PR problem with sounds?
Thanks a lot!

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
Hi!
I have the same problem here. When playing with sound @ ultra high, im getting bsod during the round. I have never had a bsod while loading a new map or directly in connection with a finished map load. I only experienced bsod during the game.
Apparently i dont get bsod with sounds on hardware/ high but im not able to accept that issue. i would rather play on medium textures because i think the difference is massive!
i already tried that alternative driver by daniel but it didnt make a difference.
here are my specs:
Windows 7 64bit
intel e6750 @ 2x 3,2 ghz
4gig ram, 800mhz
ati 5770
creative x-fi extreme music

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
The temporary solution LeChuckle is pointing out works for me.
I also got Win7 and an X-Fi. Iam running on Ultra high audio-settings with EAX Enabled.
I close my game after each map and start it again. Works fine for me. Not a single BSOD since i started doing this.
To fasten up your login-prozess:
1. Make sure your favorites and server-history is as empty as possible (the game will ping those servers when logging in. If you got "dead" servers in that list, it will timeout after 2.5 seconds. So if you got 10 dead servers in that list, you will be stuck for over 25 seconds @ logging in.
2. Move the Intro's in the mods\pr\movies folder into a new folder (or delete). Do not move the menubg as it is the menu background.

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
I belive I'm using Daniel's X-Fi support pack 2 but it's still possible for the game to BSOD after few hours. However there are few things that might help to delay that - setting the sampling in windows to 48 kHz 16bit for both the monitors and SPDIF, in case you are using it. Maybe it's just a coincidence but it always tended to give me BSOD faster on 96 kHz and 24bit. After turning the game off, don't try to change the mode to audio production or entertainment. Battlefield 2 usually doesn't terminate properly, the mode won't switch and it might screw up your driver in the process. If it happened already and your driver causes BSOD way too often, reinstallation of the driver will help.

Entertainment Mode (with EAX on) and Hardware/High solves it for me, haven't had a blue screen since. Oh, and the following .dll file which you put in your root bf2 directory:
http://realitymodfiles.com/ancient/BF2OpenAL.zip
Could also try updating your system OpenAL:
http://climpxwss01.creativelabs.com/ope ... alinst.zip
Oh, I had an x-fi xtrememusic, now I've got an x-fi titanium fatality, but I haven't tried PR on that yet, should work the same though.

1st check you have latest soundcard drivers.
Then, set max channels 62. 64 will give bsod. Known issue.

how to set up 62 channels? Its working with win32 right, so i set up a win7 32 partition with Pr but then game crashes cause of Out of memory , right?
So any way to use EAX on high or ultra ? I will buy a new soundcard but only this creative shit is out there right?

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
This is a known issue and some people have tried around with experimental drivers. I do not know if there is a version that fixes this issue but I guess its worth googling for.
Got a PROBLEM? Check this: PR:BF2 Installation Guide
Got a common QUESTION? check here first: PR:BF2 FAQ, MUMBLE FAQ
"Hello, IT! ... Yes, have you tried turning it on and off again?"

When I switched to Entertainment Mode, bf2 showed me error "Your Sound Hardware is incomaptibile"
any solution to this?

Re: Creative X-FI @ Ultra High = BSOD only in PR
Aah, so this is where my BSODs are coming from!
I just want to point out thar I'm still yet to have a BSOD in vBF2 (even after several rounds) and I can't recall having them (at least to this extent) in previous versions of PR. So maybe this is a PR0.95-specific issue? (New distant sound system perhaps?)
