Re: Manual reload of grenade launchers
Same as the RPG7, UGLs have to be automatically reloaded since the deploy animation loads in a round to begin with. Say if you fired a round, switched weapons then took out the UGL again, it would play the deploy animation which looks like a round is being loaded.. but you would have to reload after that because the engine doesn't do it automatically while you're deploying. Thereby unnecessarily extending the time needed before you can fire.
Also, for those that are saying "Why not just remove the loading from the deploy animation?"

I did something useful today and asked him if operationally they walk around with the grenade inside the m203 ready to go like its depicted ingame and he said no - that thing is notorious for accidental discharge and if you wanna use one you load it on the spot.
I don't know how its like for other armies but I assume that the same thing is done to:
1)save the weight of the m203 projectile on your arms
2)prevent misfire
Perhaps the "deploy" animation of the M203 can be changed that when you switch to it you insert the round - basically a reload before use?
[R-DEV]Ninja2dan wrote:When I was still in, that was the same general rule. You didn't load up a 40mm until you were ready to use it, and you unloaded it immediately if you didn't need it. Walking around with a loaded 40mm was always a bad idea, it's almost as bad as walking around with a grenade in your hand that has a pulled pin.
I should know this better than most. I was one of a few soldiers who were caught in the blast of a 40mm HE round fire "accidentally" by a careless soldier. He loaded a live round on the range, but never fired it, and then never cleared it. So while we're all just standing around BS'ing, he somehow managed to squeeze the trigger of a loaded M203 and send the round right into a group of us.
The round detonated about 4-5 feet from me, with my back turned to it. There were several others around me, and about 7 of us took the hit. Out of those 7, 5 took shrapnel injuries. I ended up on a table with a doc pulling bits out of my *** cheeks, upper thighs, and a couple on the back of my neck. One guy was even "fortunate" enough to take some shrapnel in the meat-stick and almost lost a testicle.
Not to mention the blast force threw most of us a few feet, and I think one guy had an eardrum blown out. It was a nasty accident, one that should have never happened for so many reasons. But it's a perfect example of why you don't carry a live round in the tube when you're not ready to fire it, shit happens.
In practical game terms, the problem is with the engine's limitation that you can't have the weapon automatically reload on deploying, and disable auto-reload for all other circumstances. If you want to track your target after firing, just hold down the fire key to delay the reload.[R-DEV]ZZEZ wrote:Holy shit..taking shrapnel in the **** - its my worst nightmare...
Reminds me of a incident that happened when I was visiting a Kfir batallion base during battalion moving a sector, I got a room together with 4 tankers and we went to chew hall, ate our dinner and then we saw smoke coming out one of the rooms, the brave tankers rushed in with a fire extinguisher while I informed the commanding officer...turns out a M203 smoke grenade accidentally discharged by a soldier that was inside the room.
Funny thing is nobody knows how he got the smoke grenade and what it was doing loaded..let alone how it discharged inside a room with people inside
