newcomer needs VOIP help.
yo.
recently found and downlaoded this mod, and been playin it pretty solidly for about 2 weeks.
decided im ready to fish out for a Mic. cos im deffinatly loosing out without Voip.
just need abit of helpin sortin it out.
First and main thing is.
Do i need a Mic to have Voip Activated?? i mean im sure i'd be able to function as a soldier on the battlefields of awesomeness known as PR if i could at least hear people talking.
everytime i try and turn it on in options, and then leave options (yeh i have pressed apply) its not activated.
so if i dnt require mic. could sum1 also please tell me how to sort this problem out.
cheers.
Looking forward to hearing your terrified, organised battlecrys soon

Yeah, you can still hear other people talking with, or without a microphone yourself.
Just make sure you join a squad, and your good to go.

make sure you only have 1 mic on at a time, for whatever reason if i dont disable the one on my web cam, all my squad mates got a nasty jolt of static every time i try to talk. managed to fix it in control panel by making the one i use on my headset default
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
My audio card doesn't let me hear or send VoIP in anything BF2 related if I've configured it to anything else but stereo (two speakers).

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
So you do not have a mic? Get one. Hearing is one thing, but being able to call out contacts, make suggestions or just have a laugh are absolutely worth the investion. No need to be shy, either

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
Uninstall BF2. When you reinstall it, there's a section where is gives you a selection of parts to install (BF2, if applicable: SF, AF) there should be a "Voip server" option that needs to be installed with the game. I hope that solves your problem.
In the control panel where you uninstall/install programs, select BF2. It may give you the option to modify and/or repair installation. You could try installing the "voip server" through that first.

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
rite then
Tried all of the above at least twice. and still just resets the voip when i leave options.
I should be getting a PC off a friend soon, which is XP.
was gonna use it purely for recording because im a musician and song writer.
But PR may get special privelage
cheers everybody anyway.
I know this problem has happened to a few people before via other forums, and as of yet none of them have a solution, i have how ever got in contact with the "victims" to see if they have found solutions after the forum threads have died away. and will post on it on here for future generations
but seems its a rare glitch with some peoples systems.
again Cheers everybody for input and help

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
I had this problem on my older XP machine, i solved it with changing something in DirectX sound settings..
Im not sure if its the same on W7, but it could be the cause of your problem. Hope I helped you...
PS: For these guys who keep yelling at OP to buy a mic, he has at the very start said that he is going to buy one, hasnt he?
Cheers,
-lucky

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
Well im hoping the XP will sort it out
from what ive gathered BF2 has alot of compatability problems with Windows 7 from reading forums, and also myself struggling to get the game working when i initially installed it to this PC.
But i will keep the direct X settings in mind if i struggle with that one aswell
cheers lucky.

Re: newcomer needs VOIP help.
gibby, drop me a line on xfire, or on here if you need some voip help.
Win 7 is fine with PR, but that's a separate discussion if you have probs with that.
VOIP: If you are using a USB headset, make sure the USB is your primary sound source / recording source not the windows default which will probably still detect your primary soundcard.
Don't expect the BF2 VOIP testing utility to work with a USB headset/mic.
Standard mic, your BF2 test util will work, Win7 will usually work out of the box, the most you will have to do is to click Mic Boost in-game. If you use vehicles a lot, reducing SFX volumes to 15% or so will probably help you think over the noise of the tank etc.
As always, test your mic in other games, make sure you have updated drivers and updated OS at all times.
final point, - concentrate on getting your VOIP working in the basic game and get comfortable with it.
Worry about mumble if you become a regular on servers where mumble is done well.
Read my guide below for VOIP advice.
