The life of a newbie

Post by FullMetalMonkey »

Hi guys, i have recently started playing Project Reality and i have to say i am extremely impressed with the work the development team have done. I come from a clan which has been around for about 10 years and we started off with games like Operation Flashpoint, MoHAA and Battlefield 1942. Whilst playing Minecraft (of all games) a clan member mentioned Project Reality and i took a look at the video footage on youtube and read about the mod from the information on this site and i liked what i saw.

I have now been hooked for the last few days and completely abandoning my clan duties. I have now also managed to convince a few of my clanmates to download the mod (their downloading as i write this thread).

Anyway, the point of this thread is that i have recently been inspired to start recording gameplay footage of games that i'm playing. On my second or third game/map of Project Reality after working out the basics and mechanics first hand, i decided to record some footage of Project Reality. I recorded it mostly for my clanmates, so that they get an idea of what the game is like but i thought i might as well share it with this community too. There are more videos to come but their taking an age to upload.

All together this one clip of video is about 40-45minutes long but due to Youtube filesize and film length limits i've had to chop it up. I would also like to point out that i had a few recording issues as there was a Window's 7 Firmware update and it decided to crash FRAPS a couple of times whilst recording hence the timeskips and i'm not stoned, i get told that i sound very relaxed when speaking on Teamspeak alot, during the video just very tired as i recorded this at around 4am.

EDIT: Part 3 is uploading now.

Yeah, i got lost. I was recording at about 4am in the morning so i was fairly tired and mistook what our squad leader had said when he mentioned about going south, plus i didn't exactly know what the 'T Building' was.

And as for sounding relaxed, I've been told that before. The funny thing is is that i haven't/don't do what your implying in a long long time. :-P Just like i've been told i look like Elvis Presley and Hugh Grant. My excuse was that i was tired. I was using mumble but it was my first time on the mumble server and i'd inadvertantly joined the wrong Mumble channel, which is why there is someone speaking about being Admin Kicked, i remember one of the camera freezes being me fixing that.

Im going to upload the last part of the video now, should be done in a couple of hours. The last 3 minutes of it aren't very intestering as i get shot and was left in the wounded state. I wish i'd recorded the rest of the footage with the squad as we ended up going to the Docks area and we had quite alot of company.

EDIT: I plan on making the production value of my videos alot higher soon with an intro etc i just need the time and knowledge to making one.

i didnt see you use your field dressing when u got shot. its not in the scroll wheel inventory list ... u have to click on the number 9 on ur keyboard to get it out. same goes to all kits.

and welcome to PR

So cute! :D

Kinda reminds me of the newbies on 128, made a free kits sq and people followed me for orders, so I gave em to shovel a hideout + SPG, then took a MM kit, but they still followed me and went prone under the same bushes/trees as I did. :D

Blitzer had actually requested our roles and when i said i was taking Specialist he sounded suprised but it worked out well in the end but i sadly didn't record the parts where my grappling hook came into play.

We ended up taking cover on one of the roofs of the warehouse in the Docks area whilst our Squad Marksmen took out a Sniper in the hills.

Im having to upload Part 3 again as Youtube decided to stop accepting my upload at about 80something percent. It should be up in about 40minutes or so. Its not the most interesting of videos though as i spend about 4 minutes in the wounded state and had to stop recording quickly as i had to phone my doctors.

Yea, as Web-Cole said I had a moment like that as well. Was not sure wether to tell you that and act like the grizzled veteran or not but here goes:
In the first video you think you got hit by something when running towards to stairs. Next time when that happens: Dont prone dive! Get to cover ;)

Sorry, couldnt resist gehehe

I'm getting there. It's my natural instinct to hit Prone when i get shot and feel free to express your opinions on what i do wrong. Theres a point in the part 1 where i see the enemy on the stairs but i only noticed him when i was watching the video back during gameplay i didn't spot him.

Well, ok then :p

Cover: You should always be aware of your position and thinking "If I died right now, how easy would it be for the medic to revive me?" If the answer is not very easy you wanna spend as little time in that position as possible, or just not be there full stop. So for instance; never stand (or prone) on top of a hill, stand just behind it and crouch spam to shoot at people. If you are wounded your body should fall into cover. Avoid open spaces (streets) and avoid rooftops for the same reasons.

Also your gun was on Single Shot (1) when you were clearing the T Building, you want Burst fire (3) (or the shotgun) for that ;)

And yeah, someone else mentioned it and I think you said you misheard your SL but; always stay with the squad. Always, always, always. Even 50m - 100m difference is 50m - 100m too much. :p

S'all I got for now. Hope that helps :)

As Web_cole stated, if you're going to clear a building or the space around you is narrow change to burst fire. Instead of scrolling the middle button just press 3. Practice and you'll get the hand of it pretty quick.

Another thing, don't disrupt the column order and keep your spacing between each squad mate by 5 to 8 meters in-game. Keep yourself covered and don't go peeking around, hitching everywhere. Only take the initiative when the situation calls for it, just focus on staying with the squad and moving along efficiently.
