I also used to play this mod, i can remember the only maps i used to play on it were El Alemein, Bocage and Oilrigs as my computer would conk out if i played any other maps due to there being too many objects on the screen at one time

TBH "DCon" never hit the same note that DC did. USI is a much better representation of the old DC even thou it wasn't trying to be and way better quality too.Zoddom wrote:i never played the original DC but i used to play desert conflict for bf2 before i heard of PR.

Ah yes, the game that my dad was playing and what officially got my hooked to PC. Battlefield 1942 is one hell of a game that NO game will be able to match, even DC, all the memories I had as a kid playing this, being the jet pilot(where I gained my dogfighting skills XD) screaming at my dad down the hall when we didn't have mics him screaming at my to take cover or to do a bombing run on a target DAMN these were HELLA good times

Re: Nostalgic moment (Desert combat)
I thought this was the best DC compilation video made. I loved DC and played it for many years even after BF2 and 2142 were out. I started playing DC at .4J I also bought Frontlines just because of who developed it.
Skip to 1:35 for the action, there is a long intro. The Song is "Ricochet" by Boinic Jive.

I like it from 3:50 where it states that there is an issue with the Desert combat.......the community
Then it shows pilots waiting .....and waiting....for a jet.
Pilots using cars to save themselves 30m of walking.....
Pilots ninjaing others rides and then get teamkilled or the tk'er gets owned...lol
etc.
Some of the issues we also see in PR today...so I guess the community never learned to adapt to the role that they "need" to do and not what they "want" to do.
It does appear that in PR instead of acting fooling people have transferred into talking foolishly in the chat when something is "unfair"

been playing BF sense 1942 was a wake island demo, played all the good 1942 mods from EOD to DC/DCX and FH, and alot of others. DC was always a blast, I couldnt even imagine how many hours I put in that game.

Re: Nostalgic moment (Desert combat)
Although they are not the same experience as they were during their prime, I consider DC and BF1942 a lot better than vanilla BF2 and many other popular games.
BF2 added features like ironsights, firemodes and squads. But until mods like PR came out I couldn't appreciate them. Other additions such as ranked servers and commander assets caused more grief than good.
Mastering aircraft in DC and 1942 for instance was very satisfying, in BF2 they feel dumbed down and restricted. The second Refractor engine lost some of the 'magic' (physics code probably) of the first.
Frontlines:FoW had elements of DC but the general vibe was lost on the transition to the Unreal engine.
Desert Combat and Forgotten Hope were both BF1942 mods, with distinct settings and gameplay.

Re: Nostalgic moment (Desert combat)
i'm pretty sure this is true. I remember reading somewhere back when i played a lot of DC that the devs were moving on to work with DICE.Gracler wrote:I think that some of the guys doing the Desert combat mod was actually hired to work on battlefield 2.....but I cant remember if it was just a rumor.
I don't know either if bf2 came out of the ideas of Desert combat....it isn't unlikely since the mod was probably one of the most played mods for bf1942.
anyone else remember when they first brought in sights for the weapons instead of just zooming on the crossheir?
personally i was split between DC and FH. both were amazing mods

Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

Ohh yeah, I used to play it alot. It was basicly pre-battlefield 2. They managed to capture the Desert storm vibe in the whole game.

My God that's a walk down memory lane. I played so much DC. Those graphics are painful to look at now though.

Are you kidding me!?! Graphics be damned when you have a fun game like that! That was the game that made me join a clan, I still remember this guy Zero and I were the snipers of the clan, go in the hill, coordinate assaults, where to enter, how to enter, then cover them and tell them where the enemy was coming from. It was fantastic!Mauser GDog wrote:My God that's a walk down memory lane. I played so much DC. Those graphics are painful to look at now though.

I also miss WW2 battlefield.. they really should make one, with more teamwork and realism..

Damn so many memories, I was also in a clan( -{DFA}- ) That my father was in back in the good old times, and I was the fighter jet pilot, I remember this guy named JohnnyDo was the bomber pilot, my dad was the tank/apache person lol and who really cares about graphics in games, anyone that says the graphics are painful to watch, should go play some old school nintendo, or even wanna go back further, Atari 2600, or hell even the damn ODESSY(how the heck do you spell that...) it was AMAZING and we continued onto BF2, but real life got in the way, but the matches, DC Oil Rigs, Bocage, El Elemin(even Day 2) Kursk, Midway, (That one map that was inspired by BHD forgot the name) many other maps that NO game of today can touch I grew up with the Battlefield franchise thank god though lol
