Maps won't load (stays at 0%)
Just installed 0.97 ( clean install) and I get very weird problem:
When loading a map, it simply stays at 0%. Tried it on some of the new pack maps and on old ones. The game itself is stable, I can exit the loading by pressing esc.

Run vanilla BF2 and play a game of multiplayer, then shut down and load PR.

Re: Maps won't load (stays at 0%)
Just attempted a Bf2 game, it took 10 mins to load the first 3% of the loading bar.
The only thing different is that I am using high texture settings and 1680 res

Is your hard drive almost full? Taking 10 minutes to load 3% of a vBF2 map means something is very wrong. I'm guessing that your hard drive is having a tough time creating a cache for the textures. Try making some room and then defragging.
If it's not that, then hopefully someone else will have a suggestion... but this doesn't sound like a PR-specific issue.

Perhaps the Antivirus is causing problems. I played the previous PR version 2 months ago on the same hardware without any problems.

Checked other possible sources of problems. However my Harddrive is defragged every friday and there is nothing else different. What could possibly mess up BF2 while leaving everything else? I have BF3 on the same machine and it works. Could Punkbuster be the source of this?

I reinstalled bf2 (up to 1.5) and tried without installing PR. Same issue. So it is not PR specific, but very probably BF2 specific. Also I found that someone else appears to have the same issue.

Are you running BF2 and PR as administrator? Go to compatibility tab on your shortcut and make sure "Run as administrator" is ticked, leave others unticked.
If above will not work, go to My Documents-Battlefield 2 and delete everything you find there. Once done, run BF2 as admin, retrieve your accounts, edit and apply settings, and join multiplayer game ( dont use PLAY NOW ). If it works, shut it down and run PR as admin.

Re: Maps won't load (stays at 0%)
Tried all what you have suggested, both with PB off and on. Did not work. Also reinstalled PB. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I think the issue is BF2 related because no other game shows similar issues. And someone else (that link I posted) has the exact same issue (PR/BF2 not workign since late summer 2011) so would perhaps GFX drivers be able to break something? That would be the only issue I can think of right now.

Yeah they could and especially if you run AMD graphics ( ATI ) Rollback to old drivers DO NOT use new ones.

Re: Maps won't load (stays at 0%)
Using NVIDIA, however I am very sure a driver from 2011 will not break BF2. The whole game is responsive, except for the maps loading ultra slow. As one of the previous posters suggested, something appears to be messing with the files which are loaded when a map is loaded.

what antivirus program do you have?
I found few threads where WEBROOT was causing similar problems,so maybe your problem is also virusprogram related.

Re: Maps won't load (stays at 0%)
1. Find your monitors default refresh rate. you can find the information for your refresh rate under advanced property settings when setting the resolution on windows desktop.
2. Do a file search for video.con and change the refresh rate on line #9
It should be defaulted at 800x600 @ 60hz
I changed mine to 800x600 @ 59hz
? PROBLEM SOLVED!?
Also, did you by chance update winrar, 7Zip, or any other compression program that links directly into the windows explorer desktop UI (through right click)? IF you did, that might be the problem, I have no friggin clue why, but found multiple threads on the subject going back to 2006.

I found this...
BTW, dozens of PR players have had the same problem over the years... never really resolved. Also some FH and AIX mod players too.
The antivirus program WebRoot is definitely causing this issue for some people. Removal of webroot and removal then a reinstallation of PR will fix it.
Other people had Webroot or other antivirus programs hitting false positives on the mods/pr/maps .zip files during installation process , you can check this aws such: if you have large.temp or .tmp files in the individual map's directories, than your antivirus hosed your PR installation.
if you find the temp files...
disable your antivirus, uninstall PR, reinstall PR, start PR and host local server to test.
ANother thing to try is to disconnect your PC from the internet, either pull out the ethernet cable or disconnect wirelss connection, then start PR and see if you can host a local server. IF you can, then you have either a antivirus or firewall issue. If you can't , keep disconnected, and run VBF2, try to host local server, if you can, let me know.
SnipingCoward;1476103']I appologize in advance for not bothering to read the 3 pages from this and 4 pages from the other thread.
But maybe I can mention something you haven't tried yet.
Check your "Event Viewer" esp. in "System" for everything not "Information" that might indicate that either processes are failing when you attempt to load or not starting at all at system start.
Also check out the "Reliability Monitor" for a brief form of the event viewer.
Double check that all installers (BF2, BF2 patches [1.41 and 1.5], PR) are not corrupted using check sums like MD5: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f27-pr ... ost1474278
Run "Windows Memory Diagnostic" to check RAM for defects.
Run chkdsk with "/r"-parameter on your drives.
I am guessing you have an HP E9220Y desk top like I did?

***Completely disable and turn off, or uninstall your Webroot antivirus and your problem will be permenantly fixed.***
Some antivirus software will cause serious loading issues for this game and Webroot is nutorious. I personally had to deal with it so I feel your pain. I am sorry it took so long for me to post this.

SnipingCoward;1562844']The only solution that I am aware of so far was to uninstall Webroot AV:
I figured out how to resolve the problem, I would like to thank [R-DEV] AfterDune because he helped me solve the problem, in reality the solution is very easy, not that I looked right.
If you have using Windows 7, especially Windows 7 Ultimate 64Bit and only verify whether ta using the compatibility mode and BF2.exe pr.exe as XP SP3 and also check if it as Administrator (as the [R-DEV] AfterDune said) and also check if your Anti Virus is blocking out the program not working, I have Webroot and every time I play I have not shut it off, the PR does not work right. Thanks
