About your maps
Do you take photos of real areas and have them in your art design like the ARMA developers? That would be cool at least in your standalone game PR2. I saw the screenshots and wondered.

Re: About your maps
You should do a google image search for "Muttrah City".
And there are a few other maps that are based on real locations as well, for example Shijia.

Re: About your maps
i think the sangin map that will someday get released uses lots of real life and satellite photo's of the area to get a realistic representation although the devs added buildings for better gameplay

However at the time I was making Muttrah there was no decent aerial/satellite pics of the area, was just one massive blur unlike now. Instead the only things I could work off was a low detailed road map, and reference photos found on the internet.
The method of working on satellite images as a ref is widely used but transferring that into an ingame colour texture can be problematic, as you need to remove the shadows and any small details off it, which many people don't do which cause massive problems and also, generally they are too low detailed to be used as a colour texture.

That alien reference always cracks me up.
There's also of course the Falklands minimod.
And I think Fallujah West is based on city data but rotated and scaled or something like that.

Re: About your maps
Great thread in general imo!
Another good argument that speaks for PR.
