Nah, no need for this. The current one works well.

This is an excellent idea much easier to find an approximate bearing on the compass. Time and time again we have all died because our squad member/gunner cant find the direction you are looking at saying a colour and having it on the compass is sooo much easier than searching for a group of numbers.

Also playing over on European servers this possibly would be easier for people that are not mative speakers of English.

I support this idea!

Just say North, South, West, East instead of Green, Red, Yellow, Blue.

The current colors are fine, but is it possible to create a compass that behaves more realistic? Wobbly?

I find the proposed version to not be a problem. Maybe a more faded colour but as long as it's easily distinguishable.

The red and yellow chevron would be an improvement. I've had to do some creative stuff to make out where the chevron was as it sometimes goes invisible against a bright background.

The compasses should all point toward the great city of Pyongyang

In my opinion, there is no need for this proposed change. The current one works well.
Note: If you have a hard time seeing it in a bright spot on a map, your monitor brightness is probably set too high. :P

I like this change, just don't like the added call the color direction flair. A lot of people tend to fuck up when interpreting directions, including left or right, doesn't mean we should have a red and green box to the sides to tell them where to look.

If it can be done, white text with a black border to make it easily distinguishable between varying colors

No need for silly color codes, current method is quite easy already since the compass is always visible - in reality it would be in your pocket or hanging from your neck etc. If compass bearings are too challenging for a player, I don't think PR is the right choice of game then.

Why should things always be made simpler and easier? The challenge is what makes gaming fun, at least that's how it used to be... Nowadays it's all cool graphics and big explosions with little content or challenge and instant gratification for the ADD generation.

/rant, but my point still stands.

I still believe that the compass needs either an outline or color. White is nice but it gets lost in bright backgrounds (like kashan) and no, my brightness isn't on turbo.

Can we have LEFT and RIGHT written on the bottom of the screen too, to speed up reaction times in case of an ambush?

We could expand this to UP and DOWN for helis and jets.

I find this not only totally unnecessary but also kinda unrealistic. I mean the whole concept of the ever showing compass is unrealistic in itself but making it even easier to navigate just goes too far imo.

This an old arguement. This idea 'this is not real' could be applied to everything. Floating squad markers is unrealistic, sitting in a warm comfy chair is unrealistic, never being out of breath or fearing death & injury makes everything unrealistic.
Thats an argument for going for a game of airsoft maybe, its not helpful to improving PR

The compass helps improve tactical gameplay, gives no unfair advantage without thought. As a basic resource its not even questionable
People would gradually get used to pointing in a 'color' direction.
Peripheral vision is a real dynamic vs reactions, focus, etc so thats a great idea

Me too, however, it looks a little too bold and I'm not huge on that green triangle thing, but other than that, it's fine. Excuse my ignorance, but is there any way to add a bar or triangles/chevrons that points to the Main (if in a jet), Squad Leader (regardless of map position), and squadmates (when you're near them)? No, I'm not suggesting, Mods. I'm asking.
"What's the advantage of these choppers when compared to a squad medic?"

He does have a good point though, if the compass being on your screen is already easier than real life, do we really need to color code it so it becomes more ergonomic for people to use? Is making the compass easier to read going to make using a compass more authentic? I don't think so.

A comparable example to explain a bit further what point I wanted to make.

You know how in Arma you can double tab "K" and then have the compass float all the time? imo this is a super silly feature. Especially for a game like Arma. Since PR is faster and we probably even couldn't have it only being shown when pressing a certain button, I find having it there all the time is already "gamey" and "supportive" enough.

While yes, it would make its usage a bit more user friendly, but still I find it to be "too arcade-ish".

Think about it like this (just one of many ideas):
How about having a "marching direction" in your squad. This direction is "in front". Like a 90? angle (45? left and right each) related to where you are heading towards to. Now you can shout "enemy left side, danger close", like in a panic situation or similar, get in cover, get the approx bearing/direction while doing so and then call it out for your squad mates which are already in decent cover positions due to quick response time.

i dont like the idea of color coding the compass, it'll be distracting for someone like me, i like it visually as it is now. This is my only real objection is the use of coloration on the compass. It will also look very out of place. and depending on the background might be hard to see. the white font and markings as it is now can be clearly seen anywhere.

until this or something else is implemented i'd like to suggest a simple method to help narrow down your spotting directions:

Simply calling out left or right should be plenty specific enough to dial a player in towards the compass bearing. designate a direction of travel for you and your troops. You don't need to designate a bearing as your direction of travel, just tell your troops to be mindful of which way the squad is moving and assume that that direction is the front that way regardless of how turned around the squad gets you immediately know which way to look when someone says left or right. then when you make contact you can just call, "Contact front/rear/left/right, bearing 159, range ___ etc..."
Information in the hands of a critical thinker is invaluable, information alone is simply dangerous.

How about if you can adjust how bright the colors are?
