AA Lock On

Post by Takeda »

Saw it about 2 times, 1 ended with ban. When locking enemy Cas either with Gasking or AA Humve, there is a chance to kill own CAS. On Kashan i was waiting in MEC Gasking somewhere in mountains. I've locked far, far Kiowa/Cobra diving at bunkers, fired 2 missiles, and ...
Got TK for taking down own Cas. I Think that he might be closer than enemy but i didnot see antything else than enemy Cas. Im 100% and even more sure that enemy was locked.
Second time saw similar situation, but not from a gunner view.

I Think that you ushould check this.
Cheers.

Rule Number 1 when using any kind of AA missiles: Do not shoot if friendly Aircraft is close to your target. Just don't.

AA missiles lock onto their nearest heat signatures when mid-flight, which means that they can change their target while in air...thats how flares prevent you from getting shot. Even though sometimes the missiles really behave somewhat strange.

It's not a bug, it's a feature.

A nice example for this at 01:10 :

And another one at 02:00 :

At the worst of times, they will do 90 degree turns, and continue going for 2000m to kill that friendly. You can avoid most of these TKs by not shooting when they are both in your screen, but the only 100% way to avoid the TK is not to have friendly CAS up. Most pilots will be a little angry at first, I am, but I usually quickly get over it because I know how easy it happens even when trying to avoid it, and a server admin shouldn't ban over it.

The problem is that i didnot have my Cas on screen, he was about 60 degree left and below my line of sight, coz i was on the hill.

I've had the same situations happen, just bad luck. I was looking North at a chopper north of me and I somehow TKed my friendly chopper to my East, good times.

I once killed the friendly CAS with a mortar. As far as AA locking onto friendlies ... that's normal and realistic with a heat seeker. Sometimes the AA missiles will explode on a flare, friendly or not. The prob is that you got a BAN for it. Admins use perma bans too often and rarely review battle recorder, or have one going because of lag. Sounds like a bummer of a situation you are in. Obviously you should go onto their clan site and at least try to appeal.
