I think the Russian trans pilot issue was partly the wheels being too fast on that tiny cargo ship

It is still different to practice flying on an empty server compared to a public server. AA locks, full INF squad in the back and other distractions. Where else should they learn it than on a public server? Sure they should know how to touch down safly and such stuff. But with 63 other players on the server it is something different.

Training mode was a free for all on the one populated server, but it also gave an opportunity for training.

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
that's the worst. sitting there looking out the window, knowing that death is imminent. i don't give them a hard time unless it's obvious that it's literally their first try after installing pr. if a pilot can get from A to B without getting shot out or landing on a tree, then they did well enough to let it slide.
as for the lack of pilots, a lot of old players have flown trans to death. i've been around since pr launched, and i still run trans from time to time. it's easy to pass judgement on the new guys, but they've volunteered to fill a stressful role. flying cas is often more laid back than running trans, and that's the truth. sometimes cas is even easier, considering the enemy deployments on the map, the vulnerability of the requested LZ, having to fly map of the earth with 6 guys in the back like a van full of kids on the way to soccer practice. simply flying around on an empty server might get a guy far enough to make that A to B run, but pilot's need the dynamic content that is PR to become effective overall. so, if they're up for learning, why try and stop them? they might cost the team a few wins, but give them the chances at redemption and they'll make up for those losses tenfold in time. trans wins games, and in ways that aren't so blatant as other roles. i'd rather have a team with 2-3 good trans pilots than 2 cas whores on any day, and that's coming from a cas whore.

Training mode\map pl0x, so i can send newbie pilots to train somewhere
SL's of trans heli squads should be responsible for their pilots. I'm always taking a look on pilots in my squad, how they landing, how they flying on map, and after some analyze of his flight skills, giving orders to do or not dangerous requests.
And trans heli job not boring, after start-rush you have full map to deliver crates to possible fob's\defensive\ambushers\mortars positions.

Good pilot will land in safe areas. Yet SLs ofcourse demand LZ in the middle of a firefight, and if the pilot doesnt comply, hes instantly an ******* because saving 15 tickets and walking 200m is totally not cool.
There is some unskilled pilots aswell, but hey, you dont have 0 deaths with infantry aswell. Take into account how many tickets did the pilot loose with 2 choppers or your squad, with 30 deaths...

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
Havnt played PR in a while so 1.0 I took a shot at flying again. Ramiel I reminded myself why I ddnt like flying Blackhawks much lol, took one squad clipped a tree on landing. I barely got the chopper back to base lol. Spent the rest of the round in a littlebird, much more comfortable in it. I'll be back in my customary Huey piloting and sometimes Chinook at release though.

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
Some days it's just harder to fly than other days.
The biggest problems are really those "elitists" that yells and curse at you if you crash a few times during a round. Normally I don't give a rat's a** and just keep flying if I want to because I know I can fly and because I know won't be better in a coop server anyway. One can only learn so much on a coop server.
The problem is when people are complaining to admins and admins have to take action about it and kick the unfortunate pilot because the admin really don't know what happend. All the admin knows is he has a whole squad complaining one guy. What is the easiest solution then??
I'm not saying that bad pilots should be allowed to fly squads but you got to let people learn somehow. This is a public game ans stuff like this will always happen on an open server.

Good pilots are worth their weight in gold, but I can't blame one for not wanting to fly - I can't imagine the pressure is fun at all.
Personally, I could never figure out the BF2 / PR flight model.

Personally, I think the pressure is the best part of PR. It's satisfying to get out of a high pressure situation successfully.
IMO, let the guys learn that need learning. Just don't get in their helo and avoid them like the plague. They will get better, and you might need them at some point. Sure, they can lose tickets, but only so many before they have to wait for more helos to spawn.

I meant the pressure of having to live up to the high standard that the PR community holds its pilots to. The pressure/tension of in-game situations is why we're here, of course!CR8Z wrote:Personally, I think the pressure is the best part of PR.

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
Like the opinions.... But honestly I have issues with everyone in PR now.
It's constantly clans taking control of every asset, and if you attempt to join it and ur not part of their clan, then sucks for you.
It's constantly annoying when people do that, it's like cmon..... your clan sucks poo at flying and stuff.
But O.T. I don't fly trans because If i crash on a tree I will be bitched at. and I don't like that. (I do not crash much into trees.... But occasionally I do from lag or just getting shot at)
Still, I think it's just stupidi that people that don't respond to "I NEED SUPPLIES AT G8 K3.... THER IS NO ENEMY TANK OR NOTHING BY HERE." And then the traans just fliping around main jacking off and stuff.
I am gonna leave PR 1.0 if it's gonna be like this.

Definitely agree i hate when the clans join and immediately close all the squads, the worst thing is that they communicate through some programs other than mumble, teamspeak etc. And that is just straight slap in the face of the guy that is joining the squad (not from the clan) my clan has this issue as well and i hate that alot. I'd rather have very good contact with everyone than excellent between clan mates.
But not responding to typed word is the other thing, not everyone reads the chat all the time, the SL channel wasn't created without a reason.
And on topic, the problem with transport definitely lies in being bored to death after that initial stage, it happened to me that i had to sit in main all friggin round till the end didn't have any single request. That may be the reason for not many players knowing how to fly.
If there were enough normal requests none would have to go on suicide missions just because its the only thing you will ever do that round.

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
I have a feeling that flying Trans in PR1.0 might even be more boring than it is now, if the rally system changes remain untouched. In that case, squads will mostly rely on rally points instead of FOBs or Trans.

To be honest, if there's no good pilot on the server, I prefer not to fly at all and walk.

Re: Players not knowing how to fly.
But what is the definition of a good pilot? That he can do cool maneuvers, avoid trees and shoot people or the fact that he is actually transporting both people and supplies?
Many times in public servers I witness people just unwilling to transport neither, just like with APC's. No transport.
I don't mind a person accidentally getting his helicopter destroyed once or twice, as long as he was trying to be part of the team. Lonewolfs who think they are better pilots and deserve to take (and even teamkill for it) a chopper more than someone else because they have clan tag or happens to know the current servers admins brothers friends cat should just find themselves another game to play.

A person that can get you from A to B without getting you killed. If he's able to do this the majority of the times he's flying he's an acceptable pilot. Most pilots do get shot down every now and then, people just need to realize that, and suck it up.Viki wrote:-snip-
