Re: Turn engine off on vehicles
we do, if tanks are holding in defensive positions and not expecting to move the engines go off and they run on battery. the issue i'm guessing is people in game who turn them off just to listen for enemy armor, and here i propose this solution:WilberLopez wrote:We should do that in real life as well...
1 minute warm up time. if the driver hops out of the tank or shuts off the engine, upon reentering or turning back on of the engine there will be a 1 minute warm up time where the controls are locked and vehicle cannot move.
this should encourage players to only turn off the engine if they are planning on holding a position long term for the purposes of area over watch and defense or an ambush. of course the risk in an ambush is that if it goes sideways, you can't escape.

1 min is a lifetime even a helicopter can take off faster than that.Bringerof_D wrote:

20 sec should do the same trick. If you want to make a quick sound-check it will cost you more than 20 seconds so if you want to stay mobile you won't risk it.

Re: Turn engine off on vehicles
Would the ability to turn off the engine work if you were to create an extra seat in some (Not 8 passenger) vehicles? For example if you were to have a Tank.
Seat.1=Driver
Seat.2=Gunner
Seat.3=External Gunner
What if there was a skip to seat.8 or simply a seat.4 which brings the player model back to the diver seat but is not a driver thus shutting off the engine. It could be Binded to the Scroll wheel Weapon selection for the driver seat only. Driver can select "Engine off" and the bind would press the F.8 or F.4 Key to the seat location of the driver with a second set of cameras/viewfinders/windows etc. one problem would be exploitation of people inside the External gunner seat switching to the extra engine off driver seat and allowing a 4th player take the NOW available external gunner seat. . . . Its a possible Solution Maybe if coded correctly.

heheh of course i know 1 minute is too long, but for changes like this it's better to go overboard at first and dial it back instead of starting short and ratcheting it up and have people complain about the increase every step of the wayGracler wrote:1 min is a lifetime even a helicopter can take off faster than that.

Re: Turn engine off on vehicles
To provide a counter-point:
I don't think that the engines of tanks and APCs should be turned off at all - even when noone is in the vehicle the engines should keep running.
This would level the playing field and allow drivers to concentrate on their job. It would also be a disadvantage to the troops protected by a vehicle asset that cannot be overcome as easily as now. It would also get rid of the unrealistic "cold start, full power" mechanic currently used.

Would be enough that the engine turns of after 10 seconds when not moving.Linx_esp wrote:As the title says, I would like to propose the addition of an issue that would allow you to turn the engine off by pressing 2 and so turn it on pressing 1 just like the supplies truck system works (I mean when you press 1 and it's the "nothing active" function and press 2 to select the supplies). This would allow people to be more stealthy when the situation requires so and would be a little more realistic
If you are not very sure about the functionality of this, just think about those all times you have been killed just because the engine noise gave your position away. So this would solve this little big problem for ever. Furthermore, the decision of turning it on or off would be in the driver hands.
