Can't start BF2:PR, closes after intro!

Post by JosefS. »

I've tried to make it work for a long time now. First i start the mod, then the intro comes as normal and then it closes and says "bf2 has closed, cleaning resources".
Please help me as soon as possible, cause i want to play the amazing mod. :(

BTW, I've tried to extract my profile and to launch PR in windowed mode.

please post your system specs. PRlauncher->Support->Copy to Clipboard button. Then paste everything here.

Make sure all 3rd party overlay programs are completely shutdown.

Make sure your antivirus and firewall is not blocking PRBF2.exe PRLauncher.exe and PRMumble.exe

Are you trying to save your BF2 profile over a network?
Interesting idea, and should be easily done, but atm it's not being seen by the PRLauncher.exe and PRBF2.exe executables.
You might try a dropbox or shadow copy or acronis or some other way to do this by mirroring the local copy to the server and syncing it to push out the newest copy to each client.

I can't tell you how you have your home network and server setup. I guess you have all your \Users\ directories saved on a network server share?

What causes the problem is that the directory C:\Users\[Username]\My Documents is a destination symlink of C:\Users\[Username]\Documents source. It's a stupid Microsoft design decision to keep the "My" in the folder names .

So when you created another symlink, you created a symlink to a symlink to the source.

I'm not sure how to fix it without reinstalling PR to be honest.

Simply opening in Windows Explorer the \\BDSSERVER2\Folder Redirection\marius\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles directory might keep it accessible to the PR executables in a timely fashion.

It could also be read/write permissions on that directory.

I just don't know.

-------------------------

If you decide to reinstall, to save some time and save your settings:

make sure you don't lose your Profiles directory, copy your directory
\\BDSSERVER2\Folder Redirection\marius\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles

to

C:\Users\Bruker\Documents\ProjectReality\Profiles
