Idea: universal new player tag (+)

Post by Curry »

I remember a few years back we had the # tag to indicate teamwork oriented players. And I thought it's a good idea if we create a another tag for new players. I think that will help the server admins, PR vets and SL's. You can simply see who needs to be taken care of. I thought of a simple +, calling it 'newbie' sounds wrong and degrading. Maybe you guys have some ideas for the tag.

SL's could name their squads after that tag and everyone on the team will know that this squad is taking it a little slower.

What do you guys think?
Curry.

Every player should be teamwork oriented, else there is no point to playing the mod. Must say had a great game yesterday. No apathetic people, everyone made use of cover suppressing and encircling the enemy where one squad tried to cut off reinforcements instead of everybody going straight for the cache/flag. And the adversary team had it going too. Keep it up.

Great idea! How can we get the message out to the new players that need to engage with this idea for it to work? Something in the manual asking new players to adopt the tag for the first few weeks/ month? What about naughty people that don't read the manual?

Would it be possible to add a message when a new account is created or in the launcher? Or just as another server rolling message?

Nice idea[R-CON] Curry :D

Cheers, Murkey.

How about [NEW]?

On a serious note, maybe make it the default clantag when you first run the launcher? Newbies probably won't change it the first time they run it.

newbies aren't going to see this thread. Better the other way around and find a easy way for new players to find 'veterans'. name squads 'INSTRUCTOR', 'LEARNPR','NUBSHERE' something obvious. And maybe make a new account [PRinstructor]Curry?

PSA

"Newb" or "newbie" isn't derogatory. You're just new and there is nothing wrong with that.
"Noob" or "noobie" is. It's meant to be mean. However, it can be used among friends in jest.

And I think having a default newbie tag (whatever it is) is a good idea.

Its already known that all those randoms with that NEW tag are complete noobs, but they play pr for years already with no improvement. they are a lost cause. so we should come up with something else.

but yeah, good idea curry, i support that.

I like the idea (and support it), but I'm afraid this won't reach the majority of the new players.

What 'veterans' could also do is create squads and name them something like "INF New Players" - in the hopes that new guys will actually join up. So that the initiative lies not with the new guys, but rather the veterans.

But of course a new player could also just let the SL know he's new :) . There's no shame in that and new people should be welcomed by all. Remember, you were new once too ;) .

I came into this thread with the idea that this would be a hard-coded tag until the player's account reaches x amount of multiplayer hours.

Impossible, too hard, or just not worth it?

Veterans who are up for one round of boosting up their karma should simply open up "New players, join!" (or similar) squads. Because they most likely read this forum. And the new players just have to klick "join squad". :)

I think that simply not locking squads is a great way to get new people to join. As soon as you have a full squad, ask if anybody is new or has any questions. I've been doing this for years, and it works great.

My "New Guys" squads usually fill up in less then 5 seconds, works every time ;) ususaly it also becomes top squad by the end of the round also :-P

I've been using PRvet to denote that I am not new and I'm available to answer questions.

As others have said, it's simpler just to create squads with suggestive names that you welcome newcomers and offer them tutoring.

These days when I lead a squad I call it "Help Newbies".
Newbies AND veterans join the squad, which makes it easier to lead because there is always someone else who helps to explain all those little questions on local.

# or + is too cryptic I guess, most newbies did not discover the forum yet and if they did, they've probably overseen this thread.
So just name your squads ingame properly and the newbies will join and learn :)
