Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
I personally enjoy the arrival of new player, i expect that this month will be a transition time where many ppl try PR and eventually a part of them will uninstall it. The % of people that remains depends upon the PR community, if they found a welcoming environment with someone teaching them game mechanics they'll probably keep on playing, otherwise, with noone teaching them PR can become really frustrating and make them leave. I think PR can really benefit of a larger community, but this will means that the PR experience will be different from pre1.3 release? In my opinion it all depends upon the PR veterans, if they teach the newbies the old way, in a month or two we will see again the good old cooperation and coordination we were used to. So welcome to all PR newbies, buy a mic, don't be scared to ask a shitload of questions and never give up, PR can be a pain in the *** with a steep learning curve, but in the ends the reward is an exciting experience with a gameplay that you cannot find in other games! See you in the battlefield!

Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
/sign Teamkills are way more often since 1.3;
Almost every Squad i joined was lead by a new player with sniper/ar kit. I even got kicked out of the squad after i asked him serveral times if he does have a mic. Im going to be patient and still hope for some good "old" battles but as far as i experienced it since 1.3, this could take a while.
I mean, im pretty sure i was a total noob at the beginning of my pr-love but there are too many of them playing atm xD
Cheers

Its fair to say everyone here was new once, But is it really that hard to pick up this game? It took a few rounds before i understood most of the things, It seems like every new player has a super low IQ... This game isn't rocket science.

Haha awesome mate!TTWINS wrote:Beginner here
We played 1942, BF2, BF3, BF4 and Hardline and are sick of the "gameplay" beyond believe.
So the standalone release of PR1.3 came just right.
My friend and I tried very hard to practice in COOP, with no success due to connection-issues (Thread: https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f10-pr ... -coop.html)
We tried our best and joined a public server (100players AAS)
First thing we did was a bit messing around in Base (controls, weapon-handling and so on).
Then we joined a Squad named (German/Deutsch) and those guys were awesome.
We told them we are new and had no clue.
After 5 Minutes we understood the basic mechanics and tactics (building Rally points, defenses, unforgiving spawn system and so on). Our first round was a hell lot of fun and we are doing quite decent now
We already like the game so much and its awesome how helpful those guys were.
In other games we would have been called "feggits LEL"
First awesome moment: Squadleader tries to build a MG-Defense and like 10 people were watching that pile of dirt (unbuilt) and discussing its location
You will have tons more of those ''awesome moments'' where there is no fighting involved what so ever. PR is king of having a great time with your squad without actually being in combat

So yeah, whats the point of this thread? You won't be able to change anything, just deal with it.
I guess this is really just the countpart to the "PR is DED" threads before 1.3

Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
I just got a few of my friends to install PR and play it!
I trained them how to play, and they got the hang of it.
Well, I personally think if in the menu when players are signing up to play PR, maybe have a question: "Are you new to playing Project Reality?" IF they hit yes, it will launch the manual. Maybe in the title of the manual... first page have something like: "If you read through the manual and follow rules on servers, as well as tips on the forum for new players... you will have a much more enjoyable time on PR."
I haven't played 1.3 yet, but I have seen my friends playing it when I was training them... and I saw a lot of people just getting into vehicles and crashing them.

ElectircCowBoy, Why don't you try helping out the new players instead of crying here on the forums. I love v1.3 and yes it is a jolt at first but with some help these players can be trained and molded into good teammates. Hell half of them don't even have mic's. I have spent many a game making a squad and inviting new players to join my squad so I can help them. If your good, you should try too.

We were all new once. If you could go back in time and stop yourself playing when you were new, would you do it?

I've used the hip fire method a lot of times when I'm within 8' or so and it is really effective considering your enemy is probably just as startled as you are and some people aim down sights in those situations which wastes precious seconds in those life or death moments.ctbear1996 wrote:Play insurgent, grab AK and hip fire

Just for PR, it would be worth it, it will probably never work on Mac.

Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
Depends on the Mac model. I can run PR 1.0 just fine on the 2011 model. Also you can run Windows on one, but getting a proper computer is easier and better. The whole garbage about iMac being for graphical artists is bullshit. You can't make it keep up with today's technology and when there's a problem, you shell out money in the 100's to get it fixed, and it's more expensive than the same hardware.TheMerchantOfMenace wrote:Jesus Rafy, you still haven't got PR up and running?

Though transporting a Macintosh is easier than a hard-case because the monitor is built in, but trying to clean out a mac is a nightmare since opening up a Mac is too complicated.
A gaming laptop is more future proof, great value for it's price compared to Apple$, and you can get ones that can be upgraded in hard-drive, memory and even graphics card. Of-course when getting one, you should look for one that's quiet, cool, and is quality. ASUS is good, but you can also get other ones and they are usually better. Review and research is important.
I find that good Squad Leaders accept that shit happens and to keep cool. Your squad may get decimated because someone forgot to cover the back.
Basic rules like 'Cover each direction when we stop', 'Cover the entrances when we are inside the buildings', 'Medic stay close to the squad and try to stay alive', 'Don't engage until you have a clear shot and the enemy fires back', and 'Keep spacing when moving to avoid everyone going down by a grenade'

As a more or less new player, I have to wonder about this. In all of my games (~30?) I had just 2 squadleaders who were not nice to new players (1 of them was a well known(?) serveradmin thoSafekeeper wrote:I will say this.
Whenever I try to advertise PR on forums, and when I see others do so, the same answer always comes up: "I don't play Project Reality, because the players are so incredibly hostile".
But what I realized is, that the amount of players self confident enough to do something else than Infantry (no AT or AA tho) is quite small (including me). On the other hand, at least for me, Inf is enough at the moment to have so much fun, that I dont really care about that

Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
I rarely SL, but when I have done so in the past, I always meet a decent pack with one of them guiding me on hotkeys and advice on building structures and so on. It'll be great if newbs were guided this way, so long as the newb announces that he's a newb at SL role.
You don't want newbs to panic in a SL role after reading a thread like this expecting to get yelled at by vets and probably kicked. We should all get together and sing some songs about loving each other and get along.
I can't just keep this to myself, so I'll tell you guys of one vet in our squad 3 days ago in Ramiel. I've played with him a few times, so his high aggression is always expected. He noticed a squad that was slacking and loathing throughout the whole match. Always near us, but never co-oping to assist us. So he got frustrated and when we both respawned together, we headed toward our rendezvous marker, and since the squad was close by, he took a detour towards them. I wasn't a part of this, I just witness him go up to the whole squad while they were chatting on local, he shoots the SL dead, walks into an alleyway, then runs away like Han Solo. It was sad, but I laughed, because that was the first time I experienced something like that. That usually happens towards the end of the round as nobody cares anymore, but that ticks me off as well.

It was my first cache raid
We were going in from several fronts
There were like 20 of them awaiting us
Their grenadiers started the fireworks
And our APC shelled the hell out of the compound walls we were charging into
There was smoke all over the place, I couldn't even find the entrance
The guy running in front of me got sprayed as I dumbly looked at my map
Got 2 enemies by surprise and shot them in the back
Got friendlies all around me coming out of the smoke, luckily I didn't kill any of them
Heard "C4 on the cache" "Cache going down" and I couldn't even find my way out
Fuck me that was freaking intense
I love rocket science
This is worst

At least on our server, we are mostly having problems with new people squad leading, but this is generally because no-one else wants to do it.
If you're a veteran and you don't like being in newbie-lead squads, why not lead one yourself? Someone's gotta teach these guys how to play - they're keeping our precious game alive after all.

Re: Anyone else sad about 1.3?
Gotta say I'm a newb and loving PR so far (it's only day two). I am a BF2 vet so I and used to the mechanics but so much has been added and improved in PR it's truly awesome. I've got about seven hours in game and spent the entirety of my last match as a SL after having the role fall to me the match before. The guys I was playing with the first match, also noobs, had such a good time they all waited on me to finally make a squad then rushed to join it. That made me feel awesome BTW.
We had a great time and even the more experienced players were happy to work together and were more than willing to give advice and answer my questions. I really enjoyed that I could give an order to the squad and they would carry it out while I was on comms with CO and other SLs.
Quick story. Half the squad was dead so I had them spawn on the carrier deck for a helo insertion. While boarding the huey the pilot tells me that command wants him to drop us about 500 meters from where I wanted to reinforce. This was convenient since our designated marksman was over there running recon. Somehow only two of us link up with him outside of an ATC tower occupied by the enemy. We move in to clear and immediately take fire. Third guy goes down so now its just me and the dmr. The two of us knock off five enemies clearing the building. While arranging transport to regroup the squad our tower gets assaulted and the two of us fight off and kill five more. Soon most of the squad makes it and we try to set up perimeter defense only to be assaulted by armor. Our LAT is away and we can't call for armor support since those guys lost it lonewolfing. Long story short we spend the remainder of the mission holding this tower in the middle of the map from combined arms assaults. We lost but our squad was definitely in the shit for most of it and it was awesome.
Squad was named "Noobs r us" and during our siege a guy joined, I told him we were in the shit and he immediately left the squad. Haven't laughed that hard in a good while. Thanks to all you oldtimers willing to work with an FNG. Please if you see me in game, I'm quite happy being a rifleman but if I have to I'll put on the chevrons and pretend I know what I'm doing!
