Sup Guys new player

Post by Dalriaden »

Played about 4 1/2 rounds last night after I found out the game went standalone, and found it really good, so good in fact I plan on backing The Squad. About 30 seconds into my first round the game attempted to thrust me into the role of the Commander (thank god there's a way to deny that.) Was in a squad that wasn't really doing much, and ended up eating some opfor rockets multiple times. Next round ended up in a squad working together, we got onto the enemy flank and promptly had a BMP show up and try to rape us, we managed to prevail and stay alive though. Eventually ended up dying and having no rally point up so respawn at the base, our rib boats are blown up and sitting in the river so I hop into a truck heading towards the obj to link back up in my squad, two trucks roll out, one promptly hits a mine and then we take small arms fire, clear the ambush both trucks are down guess it's time to walk...

As someone with a military background and a big fan of the classic Ghost Recon's and Rainbow Six's (Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, original Ghost Recon) I'm digging it. Two rounds I had great squads of friendly people willing to help out the noob, one round some lone wolfs, and the last round I ended up getting kicked because the squad leader said to wait for a rally point after he drove us in front of a bradley and I never saw it pop up, was after 5am anyway so decided it was time for bed.

Think the most entertaining thing for me was when I killed an enemy marksman picked up his kit and the server killed me. ;.;
So a few quick questions is there a ranking up/leveling system?
How do I use the supply drops? For the life of me I couldn't figure out what button to use, same for the boxes at the main spawn where I believe you can swap out kits.

You just stand near the crate and wait untill it fills your ammo , you dont have to press anything.
And there is no leveling system.

To request a kit, look at the crate and press T, then right click to select the kit. Note that you have to be in a squad to do this and certain kits only can be requestd if the squad has enough members. There's also a limit of how many special kits there are per team.

I can't think of a reason the game would "thrust you into the role of Commander", perhaps you pressed the button accidentally?

I was going to mention, you only get that request to be commander if you press the button to request commander position.

Hey, welcome to PR.
It may seem like a boring thing to do but please read the manual at least once carefully. It will help you understand most of the game mechanics (how to resupply, where to get kits, ticket system (very important!), spawn system etc.).

I recognize your name, yesterday you have been kicked from my squad after the squad leader asked you multiple times wether you have a microphone and not getting a reply. I really do recommend getting a working microphone, it's essential to PR. Squad (text) chat is no adequate substitute for various reasons and you're actually missing out on a lot of fun because people tend to joke quite a lot during the more slow paced moments of the game.

These are pretty much the only things the community expects new players to do, everything else can be learned by playing the game and listening to more experienced players.

See you in the field!

Welcome to Project Reality.

Hope you stick around. It's really worth the time you invest in it.

You cannot pick up enemy kits.

Press T to select a kit (you have to be in a squad though, and you can only select some specific specialized kits when there's enough people in you squad). There's a standard (left click to select) and alternate kit (right click to select) for every class. Be sure to familiarize yourself with them on co-op servers (against bots) first, especially if you plan to pick up specialized kits (Light/Heavy Anti Tank, MG/AR-gunner, breacher).

The manual has a lot of useful information for you :)

You should really read the manual for the basic stuff.
