heads up: v0.5: vBF2 maps, Night Maps, 16p maps
vBF2 maps
Eating some words I've said in the past.... we'll be dropping vBF2 maps from PR v0.5.
In a future release we'll bring back 2 to 4 of the best vBF2 maps, but they will be re-jigged CP layouts to make them better suited to Project Reality.
Night Maps
We'll also be dropping night maps until we make some decisions on whether we can fix the issues with night maps.
16p Maps
From v0.5 forward, 16p maps will be optomised for league & ladder play. We likely won't get all maps done for v0.5, but I expect that by v0.6 we'll have converted all 16p AAS mode map variations over to follow the general rules that ladders and leagues play by.
We'll probably make a download available of the old maps on the forums, but not as part of an official PR release or download.
Map Audit
Rhino and the mappers have been going through a very deailed and labor intensive "audit" of the maps available in Project Reality. Some of the changes in v0.5 necessitate a complete overhaul of most maps to comply with some new mapping guidelines we have developed (which we'll publicise after the release of v0.5).
v0.5 will include around 20 maps, all custom community maps or maps designed specifically by PR map developers. With the audt changes applied, these maps should be a much better fit for Project Reality and will also give us a chance to try out some of the new game play elements and mapping guidelines.

We may get some vBF2 maps done intime for 0.5, but I aint going to count on it as it means more testing.
Nightmaps have gone mainly cos they where all clones on vBF2 maps, and for a start, you guys dont really like vBF2 maps from what we can see much and it increased the size of the mod by around 250mbs for maps, no one plays. This space can be used for many other things like new maps etcs or just make the mod download that much smaller to encourage more people to download it
16man maps are going to be made into infantry only combat for league and ladder play. They still can and should be played on public servers but they are being balanced with clan gaming in mind and not public gaming. We all know when we want to play on public servers most of us dont look for 16man map servers anyways
As for the Map Audit, I and some of the other mappers have been going over every map compltly redoing all the spawn times etc. Put it this way I have not been able to start a new project yet to do all of this for 0.5, I'm doing goods station as I wright this. There will be lots of map bugs that will be caused by this with out a dout with the way the editor sometimes corrupts the combat zones on save and gameplay of alot of mappers will complety change. So its not a easy tweaks we are having to make.
Anyways just hope you like the small changes like this that we are doing for 0.5, that should make a big impact on gameplay

I could make them work, it would just take a hell of along time lightmapping etc but in the end it would still be a clone of a vBF2 map, that was just dark. What we really need is maps that are only nightmaps and have no day version to themHawk_345 wrote:i am however sad to ehar the night maps are gone, hopefully you guys can make them work for another realease. still with 20 PR made maps, it will be great.

we are not wiping the slate clean of maps... there will still be plenty maps to play after we have got rid of the nightmaps and stockmaps. 20 is more than enough for you guys. I think vBF2 has 12maps when it came out if im correct?'[ECGN wrote:BTT']Correct me if I am wrong. Are you saying you have wiped the slate clean in regards to maps. The 20 that come with .5 will be the only twenty to play on. You are not adding 20 more maps?

I was hoping this happened. vBF2 maps are fun and load quick but don't work well in PR. This should also keep the filesize down (or keep it roughly the same as it is now), i was looking at the map files and some of the night maps are huge yet they suck so bad. (No offence)
I think there's enough maps. Infact pre 0.4 you guys were obsessed with maps (that's what i think). To me, PR pre 0.4 seemed all about "content" (especially adding the british faction, which kinda seems wasteful for a reality mod) instead of focusing on actual issues. It's good now that you're getting round to some of the issues instead of thinking "Lets keep adding new stuff, new maps but who cares if its not realistic!". Alot of them were fixed in 0.4 though, the Kit limiting was the best thing ever.

I'm sure there will be some to come. I love night maps, but I want to see them done right. That is all the development team is attempting to do. The night maps are a good idea but because they are vanilla maps, at night.. they are not played. I'm sure when some well designed maps pop up and are set in the night time, the option will be open again.
Wasn't me.
