Insurgency and MEC voice overs...

Post by direct_death »

Hi everyone,
In the original BF2, something that annoyed me was that all the arabic phrases had been translated word for word, for this reason, most of it either doesnt make sense, or was just stupid. Now for you lot non-arabic speakers, it's ok, but for us, its way too... "posh". its kind of akin to bringing a victorian gentleman into the USMC, thats how unfitting it is. I was wondering if you guys might consider getting a new voice over for the insurgents or the MEC, for the insurgents, someone with an iraqi accent would do. anyways, just checking.

Oh and btw, PR is awesome, great work! :-D

I agree, I know farsi and a little arabic, although I don't volunteer to do voice overs. I do know, that the voice overs from vanilla could use a little more "spit" than the "polish" that makes them sound like elderly English ladies when translated. Some drill-style slang would be ideal, although it's probably a big ask.

Here's another question, in a realism mod, wouldn't it be more immersive if team-mates swore? It's an integral part of language and the army to be sure. Unreal Tournament 2004 wasn't scared of the bots swearing at you et. al. I think that adding more realistic voice overs including realistic quotes would add a whole new level to the battle immersion that is already provided in Project Reality.

In POE II and other mods I've seen, voice overs are usually sub-par and only done out of necessity. I think this is an area where Project Reality, with many members with military histories, can jump ahead in yet another aspect of gameplay.

I really think new voice overs would do good... Maybe farsi for MEC and iraqi for Insurgents.
The tough thing is to find ppl that speak those languages fluently. Anyway, I think anythign is worth a try to make a more complete game.

dont forget the irish accents jackwebster..

damn you all, i jolly well love the posh british accents. Someone needs to code it so the voice changes if you get officer kit :) now that would be great :)

I vote for Mongol for the Insurgent Voiceovers... or Dr_Rank.

Mongol as Insurgent to Darkpowder on sighting a parachute from an A-10:

"Look Pilot!, Come on lets knife him! ALLAAH AKBAAARR!!! - JIHAAAD!"
: we run toward pilot :
: slash thud :
: Pilot Dead :

(and before anyone worries, this was on TS for a laugh and i am very much aware of the RL sensibilities of faith etc, no offence meant at all, and that is straight up)

The question is, should Insurgents get points in teamwortk for.

"Shooting weapons madly into the air, not letting go of the trigger until the magazine is expended etc."

Easy way round direct_death, is get someone on voice (more mature sound) and coach them the phrases.

The key reason why we should get new voice-overs, is because of the relationship:

[Realistic] Voice-overs = Immersion & Realism

We need the R-PUB guys to get a hold of Jeremy Clarkson for british voiceovers.

"Hop in you blithering idiot."

"This Land Rover does 0-60 in a mind boggling 11 seconds, and the dash has more plastic than Los Angeleez Calyfornia."
'[R-PUB wrote:MrD']the mortar is an extension of his penis and he 'ejaculates' rounds

We need voiceovers for ALL armies. Especiially the 'getting hit' and critically wounded cries for medic. They ought to be blood curlding and down right disgusting. "Oh god I'm gonna die! Mom! Where's my mom? Some body help me!" would be way better than: "I need a medic."

Marksman 2010 BB
HAHA :p
Actually there was this article I read about airplane crashes and the recovered blackboxes which mentioned that the last words usually heard from pilots before their plane crashed was usually “mom” or “mommy”

I speak no real Arabic except for a few catchphrazes, insults and such.

Like "Go, go, go" can be replaced by YELLA!

Anyways. I'd gladly lend my accent over if they wanted new voice overs.

yea.

despite what some people say, fig/fuzz. I dont think young men screaming for their mothers is too good for this game. :/

I'm sure this is just a question of getting our farsi and arabic-speaking players to step forward and offer samples as well as review the samples of others.. ;)

this is off topic:

it's hard to define english accents because the range is so broad - I heard a scots accent on that airport map and almost shat my pants in laughter and started faking glaswegian accents on voip ;) the 'come on chaps' hq voice is a bit public school officery/1930s (I speak like that :( but most of england doesn't hey what) - nobody calls infantry foxhounds anyway (still very 1930s, images of fox hunting.. duh). lads perhaps, foxhounds no. no sir-ee.

And yes even I have been known to chat 'god is great' (allah akbar? I think) when playing MEC!

I wonder what mandarin/cantonese think of the PLA voiceovers (not that I can tell which it is.. mandarin or cantonese....)
