So how do you perfer people to use VOIP

Role-play it! If you want realism, go all the way!

Role-playing is a bit too geeky, however I'd like some enthusiasm from my squad.

Even better is:
AHHH! IM ON FIRE!! SAVE ME BABY JESUS! SAVE MY TOM CRUSE! USE YOUR WITCHCRAFT! HELP ME OPRA WINFRY!
Thanks to Molotov Cocktails being in the game, we may hear someone say that.

Funny thread. When I'm on VOIP, I'm normally serious and quite enthusiastic to communicate in an organized fashion (Though not at an ultra-realism level)

I do remember some annoying kid who kept repeating everything anyone said on VOIP. :p

I dont talk to much - or at least try to. But if anyone is in a squad in which they do not like because someone is VOIPing too much, they can always leave. Its not like they get locked-in the squad.

I rarely use VOIP (always have it on, I do like to communicate, but rarely talk), but when I do, it IS a game. So I'm probably one of those people who says "There's uhh... guys coming from the west, defend south vcp...uhh, I just got sniped, I think it was from the north" ;)

Maybe if I had some private gaming room, I might show some more enthusiasm, but I don't, I live with a roommate, and I know if I heard him yelling ****, I'd be pissed.

puglous wrote:Well, I'm happy to see people share my views. I have a feeling if I posted this on a Vanilla BF2 forum a lot of posts would just be "it a gaem who cares OMGWTFLOL!". Now if only I could find you guys on those servers...

EDIT: I'll admit, sometimes role-playing can go to far, like when people need a realistic way to communicate certain inconvience:

Squad member 1: "The enemy has some kind of secret weapon, they're disrupting the flow of time!"
Squad member 2: "What?"
Squad member 1: "Time is flowing in irregular patterns, the world is become stagnant for prolonged periods, and its hindering my ability to fight effectively!"
Squad member 2: "....what?"
Squad member 3: "He's saying he's lagging."
Squad member 1: "Oh"

Sometimes a "realistic" explaination for problem you're encountering is just so stupid its better to admit you're playing a game, even if role-playing is fun.
LMAO, I loved this.

When playing, I like a bit of realism, but certainly some kind of urgency if bullets are heading my way.

I don't really understand why this is an issue. When I use the mic, I use it to tell my squadmates where the other team is. Whether they are flanking, retreating, or setting up shop two blocks down, that simple. I am not going to get worked up about it, especially when in a convoy.

I admit, I don't really want to talk or listen to a guy who doesn't have a clue what is going on. Especially a person who holds the mic down like the longer he holds the more points he gets, or someone who simply says "Oh watch it,...yea right there...wait over here....dude look out!... Yea...Nice job....shit..." and never actually elaborating on what he meant(often getting me killed).

So long as you speak clearly and intelligently I don't give a damn how high or low your vocal patterns are to signify spiritual enthusiasm or pot-headed spatial awareness. Say what you need to say and get the hell out of my way, I'm trying to shoot.

'[R-DEV wrote:fuzzhead']i usually yell a whole lot and lots of swearing lol :)

i agree im not a big fan of people who are extremely casual, like for example, your in an APC column and a VBIED is coming right behind you, and theyre like 'yea, i think i see a car and its coming behind us' **BOOOOOOOOM** *2 APC are smoldering wrecks*
'why didnt you say anything sooner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!'

'oh i dunno'

lol
LOL. I think the key word in enthusiasm - with out htat, a squad is lifeless and a damn miserable place to be in. I play PR to have a laugh and if it means just fcking about or being totaly deadly serious - i will do it both.

But from personal experience Fuzz, i find it far more enjoyable to:
a) predict peoples deaths any where up to 1 min in advance, basicly if some one does something slighly dangerous e.g drives/walks but is exposed to say a side/buidlign where you know there are ofen enemies, you say they are going to die and try to say how.
Then you can absolutely rinse them after wards!
b) Just before the vehicle you are in might blow up, Shout 'BOOM', super loud and quick, funny cos there are so many situations that are near misses for life and death but so many where you cant to sht to avoid death, so you might aswell jke about for you pss away.......

LOL @ topcat i am always doing that but usually not on voip....

as SL i am looking at the map alot, and i just can sense when a man on the map is about to die....

they do that funny, loook left, loook right, DIE!!! and you see when a big clump of them are too bunched up, they all go out together!

and yea i love guessing exactly when the vehicle is about to blow up!! very fun :)

yea it is about enthusiasm and i agree, sometimes it great to be dead serious and other times to have a laugh and fuck about...

Depends.
When I play with buddies, we don't take ourselves too serious.
In a random VoIp squad, I don't say more then needed (informations etc.)

I play either to relax or because I'm too tired to do anything else. So you're not gonna hear me being very enthusiastic.

I remember when 0.4 first came out. It was like the first hour or so, and USMC was getting RAPED on Al Fallujah. They hadn't figured out the M4 yet, and nobody really knew how to play the map yet, and USMC had like half the players MEC did. Oh yeah, and I (and everyone in my squad) was still used to 0.4 recoil, so we were firing on single shot.

There was this kid in our squad who must have been 7. He kind of had that voice they use in South Park for the kindergarten kids.

Every time we'd march off and get completely wiped, he'd go,

"OK, what's ouwa pwan now? Counta attack?"

"I think we should counta attack."

"I keep dieing."

It was hilarious.

Role-play. Then you get the real feeling. That what i think makes it good. And then its all about finding the right squad, if you don't the game isnt that funny as it sould be.

Well yeah, people are bringing up a valid point. If by being casual you can also be funny, I suppose that's a bit different. However, there are so many people whose talk just bores me to tears on VOIP.

I keep my VOIP transmissions short & simple. And normally on the topic of whats going on in-game.

I put role playing? Because for anytime I'm in a squad, I want communication, not constant, but i want to know what you see if its clear and where the fire is comming from. but at the sametime i love hearing "oh god *laughing* arty, move get back in the hole!!!!!!!" as i often hear when im in a squad with db, atlanta, fuzz, jp and others.

I usually don't say shit unless it needs to be said, and when I say something it usually lacks emotion. haha
