I would like to see MANNED artillery. now the first thing most people will think is "man who would want to do that?" see all those people waiting for cobras at the al basrah airport?
maybe the US could win if just a fraction of them were providing some form of support for the troops.
I believe BF2 currently uses the LW155

while this is new technology, I think it's more likely for the marines to use traditional technology as this is fairly new.
I propose they use the M-198, you'll more likely then not have seen multiple clips of it firing rounds in Iraq on the nightly news.
the US currently uses M-198

non-automated artillery encourages alot of teamwork.
in fact you might have a 2 or 3 man squad devoted to fire support.
you would need a spotter and one or two CREWMEN firing the machine.
communication is encouraged as well.
squad A is pinned in the Al Basrah streets, they need fire support at D7.
1. Vanilla BF2
Commander: Roger that
*commander right clicks* *howitzer automatically finds target fires some rounds* sure enough all 8 rounds hit the target exactly where the commander wanted.
2. Project Reality
Squad leader to commander "my squad is pinned at D2 requesting fire support"
Commander to Artillery Squad "alpha is pinned at D2, fire at will"
*crew fires several rounds*
Spotter "south 2 degrees"
*crew fires another barrage eliminating Insurgent squad*
what i do not support is a "loader class" as no one really does want to spend their time on BF2 loading rounds into a howitzer.
Now if anyone wants to complain about balance, this brings in a new aspect for insurgent/MEC special forces.
- A sniper can take out an artillery crew, if it's not manned, it can't fire
- killing the spotter, will reduce the effectiveness of the artillery
- since artillery will be more critical, blowing it up could delay the other teams precious fire support for several minutes
Thanks!
