Roadblocks
In The crisis in Somalia in the early 90s made popular by the film "Blackhawk Down" is a very good example of this. Adid knew that if he could shoot down one blackhawk the rangers would go to the crash site to extract the wounded/dead. He used roadblocks to funnel US extraction forces into multiple ambushes. in the movie you'll hear the humvees mentioning the roadblocks restricting their movement.
My proposal is to make it easier for insurgents to block strategic areas. This will make each game a unique experience as the extracting force has no idea where a roadblock will be.
One way to achieve this is a semi truck with a trailer (might not be possible with BF2 physics engine) there's already a semi model. all that you need to do is remove the suicide function (keep the radio
if this is not possible a Bus would do the trick.
Al Basrah
this next suggestion addresses al basrah, this probobly won't make it into a patch but it's worth a shot. I think the "restricted area" near the airfield really hurts the insurgents.
first off to many times the SUV parks outside the terminal and the entire USMC team just attack insurgents until there is 2 min left.
secondly once the SUV gets past the bridge it's home free. I think more structures leading up to the airport would give the insurgents a much better chance at taking out the SUV past the bridge.
now i don't think insurgents should be allowed into the base, just up until the concrete barriers as the restricted area penalty symbolizes the base personnel picking you off.
that's all for now thanks for reading.
post any suggestions you have for the extraction gamemode here.
