UAV
I suggest you bring back the UAV because they are realistic and used in modern warfare. Google the "Global Hawk". It flies thousands of feet in the air and could probably see everyone on the entire battlefield. My suggestion is bring it back but before it's deployed it must be requested, time must pass for takeoff and altitude gain, then it should take about 1 or 2 minutes over the battlefield telling where enemies are. Please don't bash me if you don't like the suggestion...thats all it is, a suggestion.

The way the UAV scan works in PR means that it detects everyone and everything in the scan area. It doesn't matter if they're in a reinforced concerete bunker 50 meters below the surface or standing out in the open. I think you'll agree thats rather unrealistic.
This is also a repost, but UAV is too short for the forum search, and I cant be bothered to go sifting through page after page of suggestions.

The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

well yeah, it might be realistic to have them.
But then again they would need to be realistic.
So they would be over the battlefield for the whole duration of the map, they can stay in the air for a long time, some models even for like 48h. We should also give them a few hellfires or so.
So basically what you would have is a vehicle that would reveal all enemy troops on the whole map for the duration of the whole round while being able to attack any target on the map at any given time.
Doesn't sound too fun or does it? I think it's best if the devs don't spend their time on developing and balancing the UAV system.

It should be player operated and have a camera that he can spot with. Other wise it'd pretty stupid if it can see everyone even if they're hiding in a bunker or something.
Would be cool though if there was a uav launcher vehicle (dunno the real name) that two players can go into and the other would drive the car and other fly the uav which has to be in 100m radius from the car.
It'd require good communication between the driver and uav operator to move the car where the uav is going. Also the uav could have laser designator to paint targets for jets if the devs get the designator to work.

That sounds like a good idea, if it could be done. Would be a more limited substitute for the commander's now gone God Cam.Red Halibut wrote:The camera idea has merit and has already been suggested. A ground-stabilised "thermal" camera, with zoom, circling the map, that allows spotting would be a fairly good compromise.

"Bringing back" the UAV from vanilla will never happen in PR imo. It is the most hated arcadey anti-skill, anti teamwork feature i have ever seen.
Having a UAV that can be perhaps launched from an airbase, controlled via its TV screen display from a vehicle perhaps is a nice idea. If it can be shot down, is less costly in terms of ticket loss than a fighter and preferably unarmed it has potential, as its just a fancy eye in the sky.
I have actually seen a predator video-feed on a laptop at a military show once, and pretty impressive it is.
the downside of the idea is that the "commander" view already gives a pseudo UAV view (satellite) already, so it wouldn't really add much except to give something else for the opfor to shoot down.

Ok, not always perfectly polite, but I rephrased it didn't I?Red Halibut wrote:*cough* Assault on Mestia *cough*
Moving on, could one of the Devs - when they get an opportunity - weigh in with the feasibility of this "Camera in the air" idea? PLease?
Oh, and they called me and my squad morons first!
Darkpowder, in v0.6 the satellite view is gone, which opens the posibility for this "camera with wings"

Been suggested many times before on these here forums and tends not to get very far.
As a result, it is now being locked up.

we had one but DICE stole our idea.
