I'm new - hi - and a few questions....

Post by S8AAN »

I've been playing PR 0.5 for about 3 months or so ( so not really that long in the grand scheme of things ) and BF2 since it first came out. So I'm not really a noob! But I have a few questions...

Is it possible to vote for the squad leader in your own squad to be changed? The thing that fustrates me most about PR is noobs going squad leaders, not setting RP's and trying to cap the wrong flag!!! But if you leave and setup your own squad, no one joins! :( this is less of an issue in vanilla BF2 obviously. Any advice / ideas? Is this possible to implement at all if nothing currently exists?

I love PR it is an awesome awesome mod!! Keep up the good work!

There is no way to change the squad leader. That is a problem that we can't do anything because the squad system from BF2 is hardcoded and the DEV's can't do anything.

If you can't find any good squad, creat you own one with names like TEAMWORK or USE VOIP, these kind os squads names always call good players atention.

PR is a fantastic mod, and it is more fantastic with good players. We have a brazilian server that always we have a good game. You can join us, try find a server called Click 21 and dont worry about the language, most of everyone knows speak in English.
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro."
(yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

Leave squad - make/join new one.
There are a lot of discussions concerning this (also for commanders) but a lot of the stuff seems to be hardcoded and the idea with a specific rank that is needed to get such positions has some other problems. I`m sure the PR-team will find a solution. At the moment all you can do is leave the squad and make/join a new one.

What =Romagnolo= says :)

Don't lose heart though: there's plenty of good SL's out there.

I'm wondering how are SL's are assigned?

I inherited a squad once (everyone left so I assumed position) then others joined.I am a beginner and was willing to give up SL to more experienced player.

I could have "resigned" by leaving the squad , letting someone else take over then rejoining but , if there are for example four other members , how is it decided who is offered the SL position?

I'm not sure that even DICE knows how SLs are assigned. It seems to be relatively random, most of the time, not depending on score, rank or time in squad/on server.

Also, in most squads where the SL leaves without saying a word, most people don't want to be SL. You end up with people joining and leaving 30 times in order to avoid the responsibility, and they never even say anything, just pass the buck to someone else.

Agreed - that does my head in! I've been SL a few times and really enjoy it as long as I know the map, however it is annoying when people don't listen to you!

VOIP teams are always the best though, just the basic factor of being able to chat to everyone helps so so much.

I find that squad leaders trying to "cap the wrong flag" usually aren't noobs for the simple reason that if they manage to assemble their squad at a precise location they must have some skills, plus capping the wrong flag may be a viable tactic to slox enemy progression, stop the enemy from capping a flag or simply make the capping process faster by simply already being in a position to cap when the flag that was to be capped is capped

That's the tactic.

Lots of "caps" in that sentence :D ;)

Yes, but it kinda sucks when every single squad considers it of utmost importance to be at a forward, uncappable flag.

And thats whats leadership is all about. You want to make those who do not lissen to prick their ears when you or your buddies speak. They might not trust you as an SL yet, but they might trust their buddy.

If you get their buddy to work your orders, you get the last one. Or, if you have only 2 people functioning as a squad and the rest see the results, they will come around to your thinking.

Me, myself - I use sarcasm ... ah, I remember once when they all wanted to mutiny, I told them to f... off. 3 minutes later I was "2 squads proceeding down the allyway. 1 tango, 2 tangoes, 3 - oh - 4, 5, 6, 7 - man its a fucking turkey shoot! Now what did I tell you?"

And offcourse, you can always use the real effective tactic. Being humble. "Lissen, if I don't get you all 3 confirmed kills within 2 minutes - I will leave my post - now who is with me?"

I know, lot of piss- but really - we forget one little detail here. It is a game. I do not know you. I will not follow your orders untill I know what you can do. Try to prove yourself every time for your squad, what you can do, how you can read the situation, how you can "own" the situation. They will follow.

I know I am not willing to piss away my gaming experience to some gamer that I do not know. I will for somebody I can "trust". The ones that proves to you that if we are truly on LV-426 - I will be right next to you. Trying to make you better than you are.

Bah - I am preaching to the choir. We all know this. We play to make the guy next to us be better than ourselves. Before you know it, we are all having a game mentioned in 7 different threads.
