Spotting Adjustments

Post by nedlands1 »

Currently the favored way of finding concealed enemies is to spot in their general direction. This is problematic since the radius of spotting is very large and hence it is very easy to find them. Also once you have actually spotted them, their orientation, unit type and positioning becomes apparent. If your spotted target decides to run there is no where for them to run to since you can see clearly which direction they are moving. Also enemies who are concealed just below a ridge-line are no match for the omniscient spotting feature. I believe this needs to be toned down quite a few notches for the some same reasons the UAV was removed.

The spotting feature should reveal the unit type and the general location but with a limited spotting radius. It could also reveal the orientation of the unit. The unit's position and orientation should not be constantly updated. Like in battlefield 2142, this information should be available only to the squad but on top of that only if they are in a certain radius to simulate close verbal communications. For this information to be available to the team as a whole maybe a radioman kit must be made. If the squad has one of these close to the spotter than the information becomes available to the whole team.

By having this current spotting system in place it really detracts from realism. By incorporating these limitations the system will become more realistic.

On the inverse, spotting a vehicle in the open on basrah and the like is impossable if it's outside of this radius that already seems to exist.

I find that spotting slightly above, where you would normally look, works in that case.

I must admit, I always use this feature to my advantage, usually to find out if an enemy is dead or alive. The spotting system doesn't really suit PR. I think it could be removed. This would definitely force more people to use VOIP.

nah because IRL if you have a radio you dont take time to push the talk button to say sniper.

you yell it out if fear of your life,IMO, in PR the only way to do that is to keep the comrose

^^^^^^ true, but it seems like it used quite a bit. I admit myself to just generally pointing a direction and spotting on forested maps like Mestia, and it usually works quite well.

Not sure if this issue can really be fixed though or if we should care that much....

This issue really came to a head when I shot at a guy and missed, in my perfectly concealed position, only to have him dance about slowly looking around spotting until he came upon my position and stopped, going prone. His friend in the apc immediate drove forward, quickly changed position and shot me directly.
