The silencer originally is only used to protect the user from deafening/blinding when firing the weapon inside buildings. That the enemy can't hear you is just a favorable side-effect.
When you want a silencer because you don't want the enemy to hear you, then you need to have sub-sonic bullets also, and so lose much stopping power.
So I am quite sure that in a direct combat situation in the open a soldier would choose more power over a silencer nine out of ten times.
And also most "pistol-wielders" aren't issued silencers in the first place, since those things aren't free either.

Agreed.element365 wrote:I thought it was called a suppressor. Since it doesn't actually silence the gun...

Silenced machinegun / sniper rifle....
HHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA
Sniper would lose range and accuracy because of the can... and continued automatic fire through one tends to build up barrel pressures (potentially to a dangerous level) due to the silencer can filling with hot expanding gas.
Hell, we might as well model a silenced Minigun..... :s
No... NO NO NO.
The only reason an MG/Sniper should have some kind of accessory on the barrel is to 'shape' the muzzleblast (and make a pretty in-game special effect when the trigger is pulled) seeing that things like dust-pickup and nitro-cellulose smoke isn't modelled in-game.

Maybe with an eastern bloc suppressor (they still use steel wool which disintegrates after 15-20 rounds). For shots under 700yds we routinely mounted suppressors on our DMR's for noise reduction and flash suppression. Both very useful properties. As for MG's, carbines and SMG's I can see but I have only seen a suppressor mounted on a c9 in field trials and not in the actual field.ZephyrDraevyn wrote:Silenced machinegun / sniper rifle....

The other bonus with mounting suppressors on carbines is that I found it actually gave it much better balance once you got used to moving with the additional length of the weapon.

Already been talked about in several threads. The issue then, is that they wouldnt be able to share ammo, so effectively, you would have 2(two) 30 round weapons at the ready. Empty one into one guy, dont reload, just switch to the next one. reload after the firefight... see? BIG problem.-=Rhodesy_77=- wrote:im pretty sure he ment by a mg as in a smg like an mp-5... you could have it as an option like one wep slot have as just an mp-5 without silencer and the nin the next wep slot have one with one... so u can choose between power or stealth...
Im locking this thread because as said, this isnt Project Special Forces, its been asked many times before, and we will see what the future brings.
If the DEVs think a certain class realistically needs a silenced pistol, then they will get it. But in all honesty guys, Ive NEVER seen much gain in silenced guns in PR or BF2 unless you are sniping, in which case, youd already be far away anyway...
Regardless of my personal input there, Locked.
