Time to can the A129 Mangusta

Post by BetterDeadThanRed »

WARNING! Read this thread without a change of pants at your own risk.

Ladies and gentlemen, mostly the latter, the time has arrived, a time to take China's military to the next level. As many of you know, the BF2 Z-10 attack helicopter is actually the Italian made A129 Mangusta while the actual real life Z-10 has remained a undisputed assumption but only through fleeting images leaked on the internet, but that time has changed.

Behold.

The picture doesn't display for me.
I have one question though "The Z-10 helicopter is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6C-67C turboshaft engines with Full Authority Digital Engine Control (FADEC). The engines have a maximum continuous power of 1,531hp (1,142kw) each".

???????
They import them or make them under license ?
And as the windshield melts
My tears evaporate
Leaving only charcoal to defend.
Finally I understand the feelings of the few.

The Chinese military isn't exactly known for using its own equipment, in fact the article says the Z-10 is fitted to deploy AGM-114 Hellfires.

I think you misread that.
This is what I saw.
China is currently developing a new HJ-10 anti-tank guided missile (ATGM), which was said to be comparable to the U.S. AGM-114 Hellfire

Whoops, oh snap ADA. Could have sworn that I read that somewhere else though, and doesn't really change the fact that the Chinese aren't known for making their own military equipment, but props to you for catching that so quickly.

im sure they are using the P&W engine until they develop their own indigenous product. Who knows, they might just use it under license.

The Chinese have tested the Z-10 as a prototype, but I don't believe the Z-10 is really in active combat in their country.

In 2003 they tested a prototype, that is all I know. And FAS concurs that the Italian Army is the only army to have this in their inventory.

I don't think it is time to 'can' the chopper though, because it is the only best option the PLAA has to have a competitive chopper in this game. And since this game is based on fairly modern rules, I don't think it is wrong that the PLAA has this Z-10 in the game, it's just to give them something which is somewhat accurate. They currently use a Z-9 transport helo, and I am pretty sure that is based off some other country's model.

Lord knows how many other knock-offs they've made of aircraft and weapons :D .

Well, Z-10 is expected to enter service in the year 2010 at the very latest and since this game is taking place in the future, I agree with OP. Hope to see this new toy in 0.8

Then you need to start paying closer attention ;)
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

I don't get it..

You use the WASD keys to move up or down (or a joystick).
No torque, oil pressure , engine heat , navigation etc. etc...just keys.

Sure the visual skin might make a difference but really , whether they use P&W 1500HP Turbines or a Ford v-8 for power really isn't going to effect the outcome in a game so why the technical discussions cluttering the suggestion one has to wade through?

Absolutely! Every kit is going to have dual KRISS super Vs, an AT4CS and bangalore blade in .8!

Because the current Chinese attack helo is an ITALIAN attack helicopter and the real one has just now been seen clearly by the public eye and can be accurately modeled.

Point clear enough? Maybe if I put it in size 30000 font and with hot pink writing it would help?

And before I go off on a tangent, the current Chinese transport helo is a old French super frelon built under license and only a few of them are actually in service. The Chinese use a heck of a lot more Mi-17s.

The only thing you need there is a new skin, if that. To be picky, pull of the KORDs and put a couple Type 89s (I think thats what they are called) and call it a day.

But to the issue at hand...
