I'm running 32 bit vista, installed thnew .7 stuff, and it crashes back to desktop when it usually should start saying "Verifying client data" or whatever. What can I do?

You're probably in need of one of the following:

- New Graphics Drivers
- New Sound Drivers

But another common solution:

Open up Documents > Battlefield 2 > Profiles > ~profilename~ > Video.con

Try replacing the contents of this file with this:
VideoSettings.setTerrainQuality 1
VideoSettings.setGeometryQuality 1
VideoSettings.setLightingQuality 1
VideoSettings.setDynamicLightingQuality 1
VideoSettings.setDynamicShadowsQuality 1
VideoSettings.setEffectsQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureQuality 2
VideoSettings.setTextureFilteringQuality 1
VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz
VideoSettings.setAntialiasing Off
VideoSettings.setViewDistanceScale 0.75
VideoSettings.setVideoOptionScheme 3
This will move all settings down to fairly low (keeping texture at medium otherwise you will get other crashes) and most importantly makes the monitor resolution the minimum. Often dodgy resolution settings cause your problem.

Once PR loads you can then choose better video settings.

I hope this helps.

Can you post hardware specs?

My hardware isn't the problem here. All of my drivers are up to date, because I just installed a few patches on some other games and they work just fine.

Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz
Memory: 2046MB RAM
Hard Drive: 400 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE
Monitor: 19'' LCD Flatscreen Display
Sound Card: Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi)
Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6000) (6000.vista_rtm.061101-2205)

And that filename, doesn't exist.

This is amazing.

I just pressed search, and put in Crash to Desktop and it came up with all these lovely posts.....

I will however add my bit of advice.Uninstall everything to do with BF2.Defrag and clean the registry.Delete all folders left over.Re-install as per the standard installation instructions in the correct order.Install v0.7 code first then the 0.7 levels.
