Chinese AA Gun Sights

Post by MadTommy »

Was playing on Quinling.. as Chinese .

The Chinese AA gun has no sights.. you have to use the tracers.

However on the white skies on Quinling.. not sure about other maps.. it is very difficult, if not impossible to know where you are firing.

I had an apache hovering very high.. i could see it but could not see any tracers against the white sky and could therefore not hit it. The perfect placed AA gun was simply useless.

Can you please look at this. (i did search..) Thanks

The PLA doesn't use the AA gun in game. For this "class" of AA guns, China currently uses this twin 35mm AA Cannon:

Its got a digital aiming system or a manual one looking similar to the US/UK one in game.

BUT... Since we probably wouldn't be seeing this weapon in game anytime soon if ever... Can't we add a 3d cross-hair or darken the tracers a bit? :)

Nice AA guns there...wonder if someone could model them?

Though, would it then become mobile AA, or a stationary, "Locked" version?

That's the "real" British one IIRC; it has no wheels last I saw. All that one seems to need is a better skin.

Make sure all AA have sights on them. That's all I ask. MEC/PLA do not have sights. US/Brits have sights. The case is made to level the playing field by adding sights to the MEC/PLA.

Agreed. I brought it up before back in .6, when they where first made a deployable asset.

To be honest, I'm not even sure what AA unit they're using in game now, and if they're simply place holders.

Just having tracers that stood out against the white sky wold be enough for me.. just the combination of invisible tracers and no sights seems a little fubared.. makes the PLA AA gun only good for ground targets or very low flyer's.

the sky on qinling is being changed apparently due to problems with the jet HUDs.

Or once again just put sights on the AA guns. Then you could make the sky bloody red for all I care. The sight will tell me where the weapon is shooting.

The sky stays but the HUD gets another shade.

I think the MEC and the PLA will eventually get new AA pieces to fit with the rest of their high-tech equipment. It's probably just low on the DEVs priorities.

It'd be nice if they were mobile somehow. I know we can't tow stuff but if there was some way of having a large truck with an AA on the back only a couple of people could ride in, and then having an "unload" function of some description that deployed an AA gun that would spawn a supply truck nearby pretty much instantly that would be cool. How to pack it up again might be a little difficult, although on some maps just having a few of those at main could make for a very good air map.

The only REAL british AA is the rapier system or the Javelins.

The Chinese manufacture the ZPU-4 as the Type-56 that was used at the division level and probably still is in second-line units; close enough.

The US would rather have the Patriot system for the SAM set, but that would be cheap now wouldnt it? Honestly I nevered liked the idea of having a deployable AA gun

Your right :) , China does manufacture the ZPU-4's as Type 56 and used them during the Korean and Vietnam War. However, the PLA have been making a big push in modernization ever since the 60's-70's and there have been replacements for the 56 before, so chances of seeing a 56 in service now days would be slim. Also, since the supposed timeline of the conflicts in PR are in the future, it'd be more realistic to have something modern no?

But I understand new toys take time to build and this does not affect gameplay by much; I respect the decision regarding the ZPU-4

It's always nice to have new toys though... :)

PRC, does that Chinese Militia group make use of the ZPU-4? The one I had no idea existed until I tried to "invent" one.

Also, what is meant by "produced as a Type 56"? Since I know the Type 56 is an assault rifle based off the AK, and the Type 56 Carbine is based off the SKS, I'm assuming the Type 56 designation are for foreign designed, locally produced weapons?

No. Type 56 just means that it was approved for manufacture in 1956. But yes, many things were approved for manufacture in '56, so for a long time you used to see Chinese (and DPRK) arms just referred to as "Type 56" with or without a descriptor afterwards, like "Type-56 Assault Rifle." Naturally, without context it gets confusing if they leave out a descriptor. Nowadays you usually see the number preceded by an acronym to distinguish it from other weapons with the same number, without having write what type of weapon it is. For example, QBZ-95 is now more often used instead of "Type 95," so you know that it is the assault rifle, and not one of the other weapons being referred to.
