BF2, PR, multiplayer join CTD

When I join some servers in BF2, I crash to the desktop. This does not happen all the time, but it is still frequent. The same thing happens to me in Project Reality. However, in PR on every server I've tried on my list, I CTD.

I have 0.75 core installed (without patching), 0.75 maps, BF2 patch 1.41.

I've re-installed BF2 and installed PR again, to no avail.

Specs are:

Core 2 Duo 2.13 Ghz

XFX 8600 GT XXX Edition 256 MB

3 GB 667 Mhz Ram

Windows XP

I can play BF2 maxed on 1280 x 960 and Crysis on High settings at 1024 x 768 so I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the specs. It could be that BF2 is picky from when I had my CPU ovferclocked, but it's back down to normal now, so I don't know what's wrong.

Please help!

1st: are u sure its 1.41 and not 1.40, ea still keeps those darn old patches

2nd: are those servers marked red in the list, when u try to join them (red = u dont have the map or different version)

btw: specs are fine

I've suddenly started crashing too. PR used to work like charm on my PC (Q6600, 8800GT, 2GB RAM, Vista), but now it crashes 1-3 minutes after joining a server. It started when PR crashed to desktop yesterday. I tried to clear BF2 cache and somehow got it to work once, but then the server crashed and I had to quit through the console. Now it's happening again and even clearing the cache doesn't help, I tried 6 times and crashed every time after a short while (1-3 mins).

Hopefully someone has a clue about what's going on.

so u haven't shutdown pr regularly once? might wanna try that maybe its got something to do with unloading the custom shaders

just start pr, login and then hit quit
then try pr again? - maybe?

Didn't help, crashed in about 30 seconds after joining.

This happens on at least TG server and HeroS server, but I'm able to play on 10th mountains just fine for a long time.
