PR growing new factions added

Post by nicoX »

How do you guys plan to incorporate the 7 factions from the mod section into PR?
There is already 6 factions, one more official coming up with the US ARMY faction. A total of 14 factions will be pretty big.
Will it not become a overflow and lead to bad gaming as there will be to much new things, said you will never adapt to a map or faction as there will be to much to cope with.
Also to consider all the bugs and testing. As we see we have problems with each patch, consider then how big the problems will get when the game doubles. All the player feedbacks that will come up, improvements/new things, how will the mod developers have the time to adjust this things to every new patch.
I sure think it's fun with new factions but I just want to know the strategy behind it. Also will the mod's be incorporated into PR or will they come as add-on?
My personal suggestion is that they should come as a add-on pack. Not because of the size but because of the problem they might cause. An add-on with it's own patch system, because consider the time and  it will take before everything is done, testings and all the improvements for each faction before a new patch could be released. So having the community mods on a stand alone add-on will make things much easier.

i agree that making a minimod for all of the community factions would be a good idea, but one for every faction would be annoying.

i think all the factions should be in the main download , if they were in separate downloads , too few people will download it.

im sure the teams that made the faction will stick around and PLAY it, as sure as take any bug reports and fix em because im sure they want people to play their content.

I second that. The community would be split if all community factions were minimods.

I support the motion!
The key to modernising any weapon is covering them in glue and tossing them in a barrel of M1913 rails until they look "Modern" enough.

well...,even if it is 10 gigs i would download it,while i have 4mb download speed for 2 computers(doesnt really work)but my max speed is around 400kbs,should take like half a day,if its worth it,then why not?
if you have slower connection bf2 wouldnt run very good anyway, even i have connection problems sometimes D:

If the game is split up into 1 GB parts again like last, it wouldnt pose a problem.
About not getting acustomed: Wouldnt totally realistic? RL soldiers dont know much more of there area of engagement then what they see on the satellite images and are told.
Not getting acustomed is what makes MMOs so great(theoretically, anyway).

Just make them downloadable separately, like core and levels now?

Besides, don't forget about all these people asking why can't they play on half of the maps.

I say,

Core
Levels
faction

All of them would be a good size but still, easier to download.

It's simple:

Add reasonably-sized Map Packs. The download sequence should look something like this:

Core
Standard Levels
Map Pack 1 (up to 10 maps, depends on how many we have with all factions included)
Map Pack 2
etc.

Alternatively, we could do this:
Core
Base Levels
IDF Faction Package
German Map Package
Dutch Map Package
Polish Map Package
etc.

This way, we can allow people to download only the faction maps important to them, unless they're in the PR Tournament or something and absolutely NEED certain community faction maps. (This assumes that the US Army is considered a base faction, as it's featured in Kashan, the very cornerstone of the mod.)

Factions are pretty small in MB compared to maps too, so it's not that big of a problem
