Ive moved all my mapping stuff over to my main computer as its alot faster/more RAM etc - unfortunately it also has vista.
In the level editor Ive now lost the visable selection box, and also if I drag an object, it doesnt drag in real time ( eg - I select the object, and move it say 2cm, and the object just "pops" from its original postion to its final position. ) This means that everything is now guesswork, which is a nightmare.
Ive check bfeditor.org, and other people have mentioned it when complaining about other problems, but none has given a fix for it. Ive also reinstalled the editor, but the problems still there.
Another thing - Im not sure its always been there - Ive done very little mapping since 0.8 was released, but Im pretty sure I would have noticed this problem straight away, when I tried it last week.
Is this a vista bug, or is there a fix?

Re: Editor and Vista problem
When I read the title of this thread I was going to come in here and mention the exact same problem you mentioned. So yeah I guess its a vista problem. No fix that I know of, sorry.spacemanc wrote:Ive also moved all my mapping stuff over to my main computer as its alot faster/more RAM etc - unfortunately it also has vista.

Re: Editor and Vista problem
Thanks fox -
- looks like its back to the old comp then.
Anyone use a virtual machine to use the editor on their vista comp? If so, how difficult is it to setup/is it worth the hassle?
EDIT :
I found this guide http://www.technibble.com/how-to-create-a-windows-xp-virtual-machine/
and it looks very simple, but I presume it means my pc would be running two OS's simulatiously. Would this mean that the extra power of my "good" pc will be used up running the dual OS's?

Your best option would be to make a partition on your hard drive (or use/buy anouther hard drive) and install XP onto that partition / hard drive, then when you want to use the editor run XP. In fact, basically everyone I know that has both XP and Vistia on the same merchine on diffrent hard drives, hardly ever use vistia from what they tell me

Re: Editor and Vista problem
Ok thanks Rhino - don't know why I didn't think of that - I recommended someone do that a while back, plus I've got 3 HD's on my comp
If I put xp on another HD, at what point do I choose the OS to boot? I know that in my pc's bios, I can change the drives to boot at startup. Do you just start in safemode or something, or does it give you a choice somewhere after startup?

Re: Editor and Vista problem
XP and Vista both have there own boot loaders so you can pick which Os to load at startup.. I used to have Vista on a partion but never loaded it
..
I think it's easier to install Xp First then vista, anyways here is a guide for doing it the other way round.

Re: Editor and Vista problem
I have the same problem with Vista 32-bit. Sometimes the white draggable selection box appears in real-time, other times it's guesswork like you said.
I've discovered some "remedies" on my own to get the drawbox from guess to real-time:
Open editor>load pr_edit>load map>leveleditor>Render>grid mode/texture mode/texture with grid mode/detail texture mode>Render>object color mode>X out output box and tweaker bar. Things should be good.
OR! Open editor, choose pr_edit, while edit's loading, disable all spyware shields and firewall.
Last resort: leave the Editor alone with the mod and level loaded, and do some other stuff. Open a .pdf file, bring up Photoshop to view reference files, open up a web browser, go to YouTube, listen to music. Then I check the Editor to see if it's working ten minutes or so later. Often times, the extra activities make it work for some odd reason.
It's random, but the above usually work for me. I thought it was just my laptop not being able to run it properly, but I guess it's Vista. :/

Re: Editor and Vista problem
Thanks Cyrax - that would explain why I thought it wasn't there before. I think Ill still install an xp partition.
Having said that xp has plenty of little random glitches, that have little work rounds as well, but none are as annoying as the vista problems.

Re: Editor and Vista problem
The link that Ghost gave worked a treat - It was pretty easy dual installing xp, especially as I had a streamlined xp installer which had all the latest updates, wmp etc.
Its still taken me about 12 hours, as Ive had to reinstall bf2, pr, ps, 3ds etc etc etc and then patch them all :/
Its was definitely worth the pain, as the editor is flying now, and I can play pr with my good gfx card on xp now
Thanks for the tips guys!
