Plane braking
i just had a thought ...
maybe it is a suggestion to add parachutes 2 brake the planes when landing caus atm the planes have almost no oportunity of landing caus if you go 2 slow you crash and if you go to fast you slide acros the landing strip

It would be very unrealistic, not to mention that its easy as f**k to land. You just have to practice. Seriously just practice more man.

No, never. They have like a steel cable that they hook onto while landing. I know im not describing correctly so someone else come here and educate the masses.Waaah_Wah wrote:Also, arent they using parachutes when landing on carriers?

Arresting gear - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
If you cant be arsed into reading that basicly, when the jet lands to decelerate quickly and keep from falling off the carrier the jet drops a hook that grabs the arrestor cable. The arrestor cable is connected to large springs that absorb energy.

Re: Plane braking
the cables aeren't connected to a large spring , but this type of machine that pulls back on the cable when a jet lands. I watched a couple documentary's on the Nimitz class carriers' and i never seen a large spring of some sort when they're talking about where the arrestor cable goes toScorch wrote:Arresting gear - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cool, we getting the Vulcan in game???Waaah_Wah wrote:^^Reehehehehealy??
IIRC the Nimitz arrestor cables and attached to two hydraulic rams which absorb the pressure of the aircraft then tension the cable for the next landing. Basically two pulleys that are pushed apart by the rams pulling the cable in. Can't find a piccie on google though.PlatinumA1 wrote:the cables aeren't connected to a large spring , but this type of machine that pulls back on the cable when a jet lands. I beleive they would use brakes after a time when the thing is slow enough where you don't have to worry about leveling out and taking back off

That must be in unusual cases only. I have seen countless videos(i know we are all internet warriors) of fighters landing and have never seen that before.Lorfah wrote:You were saying?![]()
You must have tried to find those

Re: Plane braking
I wouldn't mind an air braking system and some flaps and that jazz, but unfortunately BF2 isn't the worlds greatest flight sim, so we have to deal with it. You can't even glide without falling out of the sky randomly, and personally I think that's a much bigger pain in the balls with regard to landing - although I haven't flown in .8 so that might have been fixed, although it seemed like a bit of a lost cause the way it kicked in like that.

Re: Plane braking
In the game LockOn Modern Air combat (which is a flight sim) the su-25 uses parachutes when landing

Re: Plane braking
Brakes for jets using the BF2 engine only work by using reverse thrust. This causes all sorts of interesting things like opportunistic jet pilots who use this to fly backwards, and thus, reverse thrust was removed.
