map lighting

Post by hiberNative »

maps like kashan, al basrah and ramiel all have the same, clear map lighting.
why not have a different kind of lighting:

would be cool if like upcoming fallujah could have a cloudy evening light or intense orange sandstorm light on it. not necessarily saying that the draw distance should be lower, buy you're able to edit the overall light color on the map, right? or is that ruled by the color of the fog?

Cloudy skys are depressing, and it makes a map look so much nicer if its sunny ( trust me - Ive been experimenting )
Download the bf2editor - its easy to play around with skies and you can totally change the look of a map.

The fog colour matches the bottom of the skydome so it blends in.
The rest of maps colours are independent eg Trees, terrain, statics etc each have their own 3 colours acting on them - then there's shadow colours etc as well.

could we at least get a foggy city? maybe dusty city? i'd love to have like a sandstorm or slow moving fog.

what we need to get is a map where it's morning and then the fields have fog but the roads are kinda ok with little fog.

lol - yeah you have to set it up -

Unpack the maps zip files under EAgames/bf2/mods/pr/levels/*map you want to change* ( make sure you delete the unpacked folders when youve finished - but not the zips or the info folder)

Then open the editor - click PR as the mod
Select level editor in the drop down box
Go to the modmanager tab at the top and hightlight all the boxes in there to load all the content.
Then click the file icon and load the map you want.
When the maps opened in the editor, look under the tweaker box on the left and the sky settings are under the "light settings" ;)

EDIT - I meant to say its easy when you know how :p

why not have a different kind of lighting:
Kashan_Night was being worked on not so long back, It certainly makes a difference, to see tracers passing overhead, it gave the map depth even out of combat, always fealing on edge.

sounded like a great idea, would spice up that map. doesn't have do be pitch black, but dark enough so tracers are really visible and infantry movement less visible ;D

I remember when Bi Ming was at night, now that was epic :p I think there should be a couple of night maps, many operations are done at night, so why not?

Kashan Night

A few servers ran it - you just had to download a tiny file to make it a night map.

Everyone likes the idea, but no one plays them. NV goggles get a bit much after a while.
Like hibernate says though, a dusk or moonlit map would be a cool addition.
