Well, if we all know what IIRC means now, it always helps to google it and not get someone else to. :p

Colonel Cool was right, our good friend the search tool says this: Why Zatar, Daqing and Omar were removed (post 6).

Good map? Maybe... The PR team is gutting and completely removing every last bit of vanilla that they possibly can. If it's hardcoded, it has to stay but if it can be removed, it's on the way out. Good riddance I say.

I have had good rounds on Zatar but custom maps made specifically for PR are far more suited for the gameplay.

The way that poll was written was awful. I like zatar but I was tempted to vote no I thought that poll was so extreme. I have a feeling that many of those who voted no did so mostly because of their desire to separate from bf2, not their enjoyment on the map.

I personally enjoyed the map but the DEV's were correct about it, the map just wasn't quite Reality material. Maybe if someone took the time to remake it (I would but I don't have the coding knowledge or the time unfortunately) they might reconsider adding it.

IIRC, there were broad appeals for Zatar to be included in 0.7 I think.
Turned out that it played fantastic - some of the flags were ridiculous but it suited PR beautifully and it was probably the only truly assymetric map in PR to date.
Why it was removed, I can't understand

It's not too hard to understand. The PR team want their mod to be their own work. If something created by EA can be removed, it will be. The only reason certain EA models and such are still there is because these things take time to replace.

zatar was sweet, it gave the US team a lot of strategic freedom, IMO there needs to be another map like this.

alot of bf2 vanilla maps suck *** but i thought it was the best one from vanilla

Its still a cool idea that I feel future mappers down the road will have a map allot like it. Just this one didnt quite work.

Zatar was cool I thought. Helicopters, tow humvees vs tanks. nice bit of change from the usual symmetrical gameplay.

I have been thinking that, it would need to be 4kmx4km but it would be hard to copy a map that didn't fix PR to make it fix. :-| I might try this weekend. :mrgreen:
