Remove players position on map

Post by Rebel-NOR »

Always when I have been separated from my squad I just press caps lock and look at the map were my squad mates are and then I regroup with them. Now I don’t really like that. I think it would be more realistic if the positions of squad leaders and squad members (as well as lone wolfs) were not shown on the map. That will make communication even more important, as well the commander a bit more to do. But I also then want to give the squad leader a chance to “report in” (3 min brake before they can request again) When they do that they will report automaticly to the commander were they are and it will be shown for all squad leaders on their map. I want it to become an icon with squad number in it. Then it will be a static icon like the other spotted things with the red dots.

And also if this will be used then this map view would be perfect:https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f66-pr ... ps-16.html
Then it would be like a paper map you have brought with you, not a sort of GPS.

UPDATED:
I did and I didn't find anything like that.

and also i know that it will become more TKs, but it will be more realistic and that will teach people to check twice. It will be more need of a commander and more need of people to join a squad to not get TK. It will be more communication to the commadner and to squad leaders. Then squad leader ask the commander "do we have friendlies at C7", and commander respond "no nobody in C7" It will be more work for the commander to guide his team! Then the commander will become MORE important! to the team as well. For right now the commander is not that important for the team.

uhh, sorry for my English just hope you understand

UPDATED:
ahh, I think I havn't made my self clear enoguht! The players wont be invisible on map. The squad leader reports in and then their squad number is showen on the map as an Icon from that location the SL reported in last time, as well as their rallypoint. Every 3 min the squad leader can report in and then keep the commander updatet. Yes it will be chaose if the squad leader/commander is not a team player.

This requries VOIP really much and alot more for the commander to do, he need to organize every singel squad movement and inform the other squads about it. I always do that when I'm the commander, telling the squads to waint on another squad to get in position before they start a attack, telling them who will move in first and who will be in support.

It will be like the commander ordering every singel attack which is his job, not the squad leaders, they are there to do the job their are ordered to do!

I do think this is going towards the more 'realistic' side. BUT, this is a game, and I think gameplay will just become too annoying.

Worth a test though.

Your're right. If now we have so much accidentals TK's, imagine without friends on map ?

The SI (Stryker Interoperable) version of the system completed U.S. Army testing as of November 2004. Due to limited resources, and issues with the overall weight of the system, Land Warrior was canceled by the Army in February 2007. Despite the system's cancellation the 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) will be deployed to Iraq as part of the Spring 2007 "surge" of US forces, and will use Land Warrior, on which they have trained for the past year.[3]

Theres a difference between encouraging people to use teamwork, and forcing people to use teamwork, this subject falls in with the later. Anyways it has been suggested and discussed thouroughly before.

I dont know, it might look good on paper but in-game it probaly wouldnt work out to well, i like seing where my SMs are and what other SLs are doing, so you dont assault the same flag or something along those lines.

The US military forces in particular use digital battlefield systems. They know where each squad should be, as well as contact reports. They are also developing arm-band displays with the digital battlefield information viewable on it.

I assume that the British forces likely use this as well, and it's feasable that, if financially possible, China and a Middle Eastern Coalition would attempt to create on of their own.

Removing all teammates from the map would be a bit bumnuts, and it is a resuggestion. Delayed 'updating' of the map would be feasible, however; but at what price to code it?

i imagine this is a server side thing. i'd love to see how a brief social experiment would turn out if the friendlies were taken off the map. Not on a really hardcore teamwork population, but on a pubbie/newb/very-quiet-people population. chaose? or inforced thinking? either it would fail miserably, or it could develope interesting results. i dont actually think it was ever tried on random players before. correct me if im wrong.

In any case, it might be fun to watch xD

I like a version of this idea, but like many others have said, its a re-suggestion. Go read the thread about 'removing blue mass from blue force tracker' it's got a lot of info about this subject.

I like this idea Rebel-NOR.

If you look at PR's evolution, you can see it trending in this direction.

- Removing UAV / Satellite Scan
- Removing ability to Q-spot/Autotrack enemy Infantry
- Removing ability to Q-spot/Autotrack enemy Vehicles
- Adding static placeable icons for squad leaders and commander

I agree Rebel, the current way the map is used is exploitation, and allows lonewolf players far more information than they should get. Players think that just because they can see friendlies on the map, they suddenly have knowledge about the entire situation of the battlefield and can act on their own instincts without any need for cooperation or teamwork.

Perhaps we will eventually see this in game. But it probably will not happen for v0.85 or v0.9.

However, there WILL be some incremental steps in this direction, starting in v0.85.

This is resuggestion, please use search to continue the conversation in the appropriate existing thread.
