Winter maps

Post by [CSP]Wizard »

Hi guys I really appreciate your work, almost everything you’ve done is cool. But I’m playing in PRMM over a year, and for this period much changes was done to the game play and some of them were excellent some of them not. But almost all this time we’ve got some fixed number of maps to play.
Those maps are cool and well balanced, but when we have to play the same maps for all the period it became boring, boring not because the maps are bad and not interesting. Just because we know every tree and stone on that maps.

And what I want to suggest is to create some more maps where it would be winter, rain and something so. Even you could just remake some of the maps and add them to a map list. I think this will be really cool. It could be even more cool than a Chinook

Thank you guys for your time and job!

thats a nice idea with the winter maps. i would love to see that! but we would need some winter camo then, even on the vehicles. that would be a lot of work i think.
no doubt the R-DEVs would do a great job on that, not like on other mods where i saw that before.

been talked about many times. The big problem with this is its simply a huge amount of work, not only with new textures for player models, vehicles, statics, overgrowth, terrain etc but also there are many other things that need to be done in order for this to work well, ie, materials, effects, sounds etc ie, new snow materials that have new effects for when you shoot snow with a tank round or w/e and new sounds for when your walking on snow etc. This all in all, is a huge amount of work which we simply think would rather be put to better use right now.

I really liked the map with sandstorm (dont recall the name). It doesn't require new skins to make rain, sandstorm or fog for example, so why not? :-P
Actually there have been many wars lost and won because weather conditions in history. If we are talking about Iraq then sandstorm is very common part of the climate I think.

That was great. Rhino just a question, in the BF2 there are trees like birch that have snow on them, snow terrain types, you could use those right?

possibly, it is probably a "cheap snow", ie, some of the ground is white, some of the buildings / statics have snow on them, but its just using sand materials etc.

Some night maps would also be great. Maybe just convert some of the existing ones.

Is it possible to import the effects from 2142, or are the incompatible/violating EULA?

yes its possible but would violate the EULA, DICE got rather pissy at the Conflict 2142 mod after they ported Karkand (with vbf2 statics etc) into 2142, think they almost got shut down but they agreed to remove it afaik.

may be we could help someway with that job? However for now as I understand you don't need to do a lot of work to create rainstorm, sandstorm, for and some night maps? Maybe you could create a small map pack with 2-3 maps with such effects.

You also need to retexture everything so that the player models are in arctic cammo, statics need retexturing to make snowy, not sure if you need a new terrain texture as well for snow on the ground. That's why making the arctic maps is going to be difficult.

awww, thats a real shame.

So that would mean that you could theoretically move PR to 2142?

(just theory)

I wonder why EA/DICE want to limit the potential of their games

I understand this :) Thats why I suggest my help. If I could help someway it would be excelent, becouse in this way we'll see such maps earlier.
