What brought this thread up was about the MOTY awards. So its not totally unwarranted :-P But I believe Rhino gave you the answer in the second post. We do keep a tally on what engines work and what dont. But this thread has turned into a unhelpful thread.

The Source Engine is a good engine just not for PR.

Will we change engines, maybe. But as of now it wont be the source.

Edit: More tech posting and less opinions or the thread will stay closed.

PR will lose many players with any other engine (~80% I think)
even if BF2 engine worst on the Earth & source probably give few new players

Rhino & CodeRedFox have made it clear that the Source Engine is not for PR.

This same topic is posted every release and will be posted again in 0.9 i wish they stop not to be Rudd but I'm sure they have answered this more then enough "Search Forums" would have got you the same answer Rhino & CodeRedFox gave you.

but I'm happy to see they did not lock this topic that shows they understand everyone has there opinion and have there right to it.

Oh, if only Valve had created and supported the BF2 engine...

The engine isn't as important as the EULA and the support by the parent company. BF2 is the superior engine for PR, but the support from EA is awful. Valve's Source Engine is probably the worst choice for a game like this, but was created by a company that's always been supportive of modding. Why, oh why, couldn't the perfect engine be released by the perfect developer?

It was popular enough to make their current piss-poor treatment of the BF2 community inexcusable.

Jam packed with 64 players!

By that I mean, I don't see the connection between your picture and the maps being small. It's just a server list.

Remember that old Street map?
Ever played it with 64 guys?

That is what pr would be with the source engine.

that just shows it can support 64 players, but big maps??? all maps that i know of on that screen (mainly de_dust) are tiny. face it, source fails to bf2 in 90% of the ways when it comes to PR's need and PR will never swap to it.

Ok ok, let's suppose that the source engine can handle a 64 players and then a big map too.

Now, tell me, how would be the view distance ?

Give us solid exemples.
[R-DEV]OkitaMakoto:"Cheers, you're the man, Okita"
[R-DEV]Rhino:"I in fact got kicked from a server for tking."
Hitperson:"well done, treasure it forever."
[R-DEV]Adriaan:"Damned classy Roma, if I may say so."
[R-DEV]Chuc:"Pro man, pro."
(yes, it was about me)
[R-MOD]BloodBane611:"Romagnolo, you definitely deserve a LOL award for that."

The view distance can be much higher, if you have ever watched some videos abaout Garry's mod, then you know.

I will not prove nothing to anyone, is already more than proved that the Source engine everything is possible, will have enough to do. It may even be difficult but not impossible.

There are other major engines with with beautiful graphics and very good to move, but is certainly Source would be the best choice for the PR.

Search for Source Engine on YouTube and you will see the possibilities.

Here's Empires. Make what you will of it.

A lot of people here seem to hate on Source engine based on nothing but Counterstrike or TF2. Source can do a lot. There are limitations to map size, and the number of vertices, etc., but if you look at what various mods did with Source, it's a pretty impressive engine. It can do a lot, but requires some optimization if you want to squeeze a lot out of it. It also has some of the best documentation around (unlike BF2, where "documentation" usually means searching a forum for some post that's probably long outdated anyway). Would Source be a good engine for PR? Probably not. Is it an awesome engine for a wide variety of modding projects? Yes, it is.

Extraordinary.
