It has to be an engine that is as flexible as not everyone has a super computer. I feel that ofp2 will be very unkind to those with older computers. also iirc ofp had a hard time with the whole jet concept (forceing them to start in the air). I don't think they really worked on that for ofp2. However I have not been following too much.

Yeh I think so 2 when I see those screenshots! I dont know what people have against the Source engine. for modders its heaven right? You can almost mod anything you want in that engine.

not quite.

put it simply : source is good for things like CQB, and small open areas. needs a fairly low view distance to look good.

bf2 : (and i quote) jack of all trades, master of none. it has everything from planes to boats, but does none of them to a very good extent. supports large maps and high viewdistance.

anywya, the ego engine is damn good. the game grid (or was it dirt) was a very scalable engine that still looked good on worse pc's.

ofp2 is taking that engine to a whole new scenario tough, hopefully it still is scalable without loosing too much polish.

I dont see why project reality and all the good qualitys it has to offer should be stalled with these graphics because a few people have old computers or video cards.Project reality is one of the best fps games ive ever played and just imagine how much better it could be with a new engine. Also before i had a 9600 nvidia i had a 8800 and ran dirt smoothly with it being from the ego engine.

This is dirt running on a 8800 video card.

not change at all?

to keep the BF2 engine might just be good you know, whats th point in changing now when you have come this far. i mean, that this engine is good and you might just keep it until another game with the BF2-style(squads, large multiplayer capacity, decent graphics, moddability)

Yes I was going to write something like that to. And i totally agree with single.shot

As PR is now it is great. And would like 75% of the gameplay be different if changing the engine?

8800 and up!!

bloody hell that's not easy to run at all! are you like 2 years in the future or something?

and you must also consider the cost, i cant imagine something like the EGO engine is cheap to get hold of.

Theres been MMORPGs that have been developed with this engine, so that clearly speaks for its networking capabilities.
The moding is also made easy via UnrealEd and Unrealskript.

people should rember taht the engine should not be too far out there and must be able to be played on moderate computer systems

but honestly i would just wait for BF3 because i think EA might try to make it compatible with lower end cards

Well considering that the PR DEVs have said they will not change engine till 1.0, I think there will be many engine until that comes out, considering it's the start of 2009, we have 0.85 coming now, following other releases, I would say 0.9 around late summer, maybe even later depending on content, then 1.0 the following summer, so we are looking at Autumn/late autumn 2011 for 1.0(following past releases) so it's a very long way off.

I think to assign ourselves to a prospective engine now isn't the right thing to do, and yes we could all think that PR might work on some other engine, but at the end of the day, PR was made for the BF2 engine, and no matter how cool it could be, it wouldn't be the same. Maybe in 2010 start looking, but who knows, maybe fastropes will finally be added in a new engine :D

Well,im curious what engines the dev's are looking at.There are many good engines but i guess it depends on the cost.

Think about what we see in PR. We see: dense forests and long deserts. Now think these features REALLY dense and long. CryEngine 2 can do this, I'm about to see other engine capable to do almost real forests than CryEngine 2 and very long deserts with a huge LOD.

And all this reacting with the player, that has a exoeskeleton that react with the leaves of trees, and surface obstacles. Ah, and yes, those well done explosions.

So I vote to CryEngine 2, in the future, everyone will able to play in this engine without suffering with low fps. Think about CryEngine2 in 2007 and think about it now and in the future.

What about the Engine for World In Conflict, they talked about making a FPS version of this game.

I know this engine supports alot of units on the ground, but i can only remember 16 players pr server.

It is the Masstech Game Engine.
