Want to run Fallujah at 100+ fps? (Video)

Post by xseeyax »

Then get an i7 like I did. My brother just completed his build and we installed PR on there to see what difference it would make (if any). As we all know, Fallujah is one of the maps that killed so many of our computers, especially with a full server, air traffic, etc.

Here's what we went from:

3.0 GHz Pentium D 930 (Dual Core)
4 GB PC4200 DDR2 (533 MHz)
Asus P5K-LE Motherboard
Windows XP (32-bit)
NVidia 8800 GTX (768 MB)

Here's what we went to:

2.67 GHz Core i7 920 (Quad Core)
6 GB PC12800 DDR3 (1600 MHz)
Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5
Windows Vista (64-bit)
NVidia 8800 GTX (768 MB)

Settings:

1920x1200, 8xAA, everything High

We now run every single map at 100 fps average on those settings. The amazing part is we haven't even upgraded the video card or overclocked the CPU yet!

I haven't tried raising the fps limit because it wouldn't really do any good. My monitor only displays at 60 Hz anyway, but I am a little curious how fast this i7 will push it. Now to that video I promised...

Here's a quick sample of what it looks like from FRAPS (the video was of course capped at 60 fps).

Be sure to click "Download Now" instead of watching the streamed version.

So long story short, get the i7. It's a MONSTER!

Ironically, by placing it to 8xAA you will get higher FPS average.

Put the game into 2xAA and see the difference.

Lol its still funny to me, but u will actually lose FPS, hehe, still nice rig!

The upgrade in memory speed surely helped.

4 GB PC4200 DDR2 (533 MHz) < 6 GB PC12800 DDR3 (1600 MHz)

Huge difference.
May I also suggest uploading to someplace like Vimeo or another HD internet vid site.

Maybe I'm wrong but isn't it a waste to have a 4 GB of memory and XP 32bit?

How do you see FPS on your game again?

I believe 4 gigs is the map XP can handle, and there is nothing but 32-bit XP, unless you wanted the x64 version.

Yeah I thought about uncapping the fps limit but it won't be of much use since my monitor is a 60 Hz LCD.

And 3.5 GB is the limit for a 32-bit OS. I had 4 GB though because I also had 64-bit Windows Vista installed as a second operating system, even though I ended up sticking to XP for most of my gaming anyway.

I dropped my settings to 2xAA and it never dipped below 99 fps.

I should have a custom Core i7 system built by the end of the week,...I was suppose to have it a few weeks ago, but I had to RMA the processor and MoBo.

Anyway, I can't wait to run this game on high and get massive framerates :D Nice to see something other than benchmarks to give me an easier feeling.

No, 32 bit version can't handle more then 3 - 3.5.

Vista 32 can thanks to its memory extension.

Yeah you will love it. I can max every single game (even Microsoft Flight Simulator X) so I'm sure you will as well. Crysis automatically set itself to Very High for everything, but I turned that down to increase the framerate. Once the two GTX 295's go in then it'll really scream. What's your build going to consist of?

badmojo420 wrote:bf2 supports multiple cores?
Highly doubtful, but it definitely supports the huge bandwidth between the CPU and RAM. 8-)

What is this memory extension you are talking about?

I only get like 3 gigs on 32 vista...

Try this link:

Vista - Tips, Tricks & Tweaks - Neowin Forums
Enable support for 4GB of RAM (or more) in Vista 32-bit

On a computer that has 4 GB of RAM, the System Properties dialog box and the System Information dialog box may report less memory than you expect. This problem occurs because the address space is limited to 4 GB in a 32-bit hardware environment. Memory may be relocated to make room for addresses that the basic input/output system (BIOS) reserves for hardware. However, because of this limitation, Windows Vista cannot access memory that is relocated above the 4 GB boundary.

Solution: Open an elevated Command Prompt, type BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

The pae parameter enables Physical Address Extension (PAE). On 32-bit versions of Windows, PAE is disabled by default. PAE is an addressing strategy that uses a page-translation hierarchy to enable systems with 32-bit addressing to address more than 4 GB of physical memory. PAE also supports several advanced system and processor features, such as Data Execution Prevention (DEP; "No execute"), Non-Uniform Memory Architecture (NUMA), and hot-add memory, so it is also used on computers with less than 4 GB of memory. PAE must be supported by the processor.

On a computer that supports hardware-enabled Data Execution Prevention (DEP), PAE is automatically enabled when DEP is enabled and automatically disabled when you disable DEP. To enable PAE when DEP is disabled, you must enable PAE explicitly: Open an elevated Command Prompt.
Type BCDEdit /set nx AlwaysOff & BCDEdit /set pae ForceEnable and press Enter.

I'mthinking about getting an i7 when I order parts for my computer sometime this month, so glad to know it handles PR fairly well :D
